The 7th generation Honda Civic (2001-2005) often sits in the shadow of the golden-era 6th gen and the radically styled 8th gen, earning its reputation as the “forgotten” Civic. However, this era brought significant, albeit sometimes controversial, milestones to the lineup. It was the first Civic to prioritize interior space with a completely flat second-row floor and swapped the beloved double-wishbone front suspension for more compact MacPherson struts, a major point of contention for driving purists at the time. Despite the suspension controversy, it also marked the monumental debut of the legendary, high-revving K20 engine in the EP3 Si and Type R models. I completely agree that it remains deeply underrated compared to its siblings; while it may have traded some of its raw handling roots for everyday practicality, it introduced the powerhouse K-series architecture that entirely redefined modern Honda performance.
