Backyard Skatepark Tribute 🛹

Sad news that after 11 years, Backyard Skatepark is shutting down.

Here’s a little collection of photos I took between 2016–2018 during events and comps at the park. I haven’t been back since the pandemic, so going through these brought back a lot of nostalgia and made me realize how many skate events used to happen back then compared to now. Parang pag big compi either dito sa Backyard or sa MDSP 😂

Backyard will always be a part of Philippine skateboarding history. As one of the pioneers of privately funded skateparks, it helped build a space and community that contributed to the level Filipino skateboarding has reached today.

A few snaps from last June 21, Go Skateboarding Day. 🛹📸

Funny how GSD is probably the only time each year I get to shoot skateboarding now. There was a time when skating and taking skate photos consumed of me.

Back then, I’d usually plan shots with the skater and be pretty intentional about how the photo would turn out. This time, I did the opposite. No planning, no pressure—just walked around, went with the flow, and shot whatever felt right. It was a nice change.

I don’t get to skate as much anymore, but I still consider myself a skateboarder. I guess that never really goes away.

Big props to everyone at Tagaytay Skateboarding Organization | OFFICIAL for a solid GSD, and huge thanks to Vans Philippines for always supporting the local skate scene. 🙌

All buttons working. Issues are LCD is a bit dim, cracked plastic (wear and tear, not dropped), flash head doesn’t lock in place(up and down) but swivels, no optical slave. But aside from that, the flash is working like it should. TTL with any Godox X series trigger. 360watts (equivalent to 4-5 speedlight). Battery health is 90-85 percent range.
