While I was walking along Ateneo Avenue last weekend, I came across this charming little cafรฉ with such a lovely faรงadeโan old apartment just two blocks from the Ateneo campus, with a cozy al fresco area. Really nice design, I thought.
When I stepped into the air-conditioned space, I was pleasantly surprised to be greeted by the young owner, Roselle. You can really tell sheโs hands-on with the day-to-day operations.
She shared the story of BABU Coffee & More.
First thing I asked was, โWhy BABU?โ Turns out, itโs the nickname she and her boyfriend call each other.
It all started in 2019 with just bottled drinks, sold online through simple meetups and deliveries, mostly handled by her.
She had a local job in the food industry, so BABU had to take a break for a while. But when the pandemic hit, she decided to go back to the passion she had started and relaunched BABU.
At first, she shared a small space with her momโs sari-sari store along Ilang-Ilang Street in Naga City Subdivision.
Half of it became her first physical store, and later on, she turned the whole area into a bigger, more inviting space near Mother Seton Hospital, which is just a minuteโs walk from the parking area.
Iโll definitely drop by and take photos of this branch on my next visit to Naga City.
From there, BABU kept growingโjoining events, setting up pop-up coffee corners, and even opening two branches outside Naga. But in the end, she decided to bring everything back home.
And now, here it isโher second branch on Ateneo Avenue.
BABU Coffee and More is open daily and serves what my friends also said was the best Mango Tapioca in the city, which was pretty much the same reaction I got when they found out I visited BABU.
BABU also serves good coffee, matcha, and specialty drinks. Theyโve got all-day breakfast, sandwiches, pastas, specialty plates, and rice toppings too.
Check them out when you visit Naga City.
