Punks Against Pax Silica!
On Marcos Jr.'s latest State of the Nation Address, amid public rejection, has affirmed the country joining the Pax Silica Initiative: a global alliance for AI governance and digital cooperation, with a planned 1,620-hectare AI industrial hub in Capas, Tarlac. Rightfully so, concerns have raised over its massive water consumption running local supply dry, while farmers' land remain mostly unirrigated and ravaged by the effects of El Nino.
As usual, the administration has promised jobs and economic growth, but the reality is starkly different. The project is expected to displace around 15,000 farmers, while up to 20,000 Aeta people risk losing their land and livelihoods. There is a lot of secrecy surrounding the project and a lot is still willfully omitted from the public, but what is need to be said to investment policies such as Pax Silica, is that history has already showed that similar policies such as EPIRA Law, Philippine Mining Act, Rice Liberalization Law, Oil Deregulation Law has all promised jobs and economic growth but have largely gone unfulfilled. Instead, these policies have undermined and sabotaged the country's capacity to industrialize and have made the Philippines more dependent on foreign capital and intervention.
US lapdog Gibo Teodoro and Palace spokesperson Claire Castro has also doubled down on defending Pax Silica, with BCDA spinning lies to understate its ecological and social impact, but the general public still has the final say and should not let these US-motivated sales talk dilute our commitment for farmers' right to land, economic independence, and national sovereignty.
Show where you stand amid intensifying imperialist plunder in the context of global crisis! Pay what you can as always, and proceeds go to Central Luzon farmers for their land cultivation activities and their campaign against Pax Silica.
