The Hoops Dome filled with pride as Binibining Lapu-Lapu 2025 highlighted beauty, talent, culture, and devotion.

With the theme “Women Empowerment, She Can Do It Too,” the event honored talent, courage, and excellence beyond gender.

Basak Barangay Captain Jasmine Marie Chan Olmstead, who also served as the Binibining Lapu-Lapu 2025 Chairperson, opened the program with a strong message. She said the theme functions as both a reminder and a challenge. She shared, “Walay trabaho na panglalaki, walay pambabae. Ang talento, kahanas ug kaisog dili limitado sa usa ka gender.” She dedicated the evening to the guidance and protection of the city’s patroness, Nuestra Señora Birhen dela Regla.

Congressman Junard “Ahong” Chan honored the candidates onstage. He said the pageant held in devotion to Nuestra Señora Birhen dela Regla has grown into a tribute to culture, identity, purpose, and unity for all Oponganons.

Mayor Cindi King Chan reflected on the importance of honoring Nuestra Señora Birhen dela Regla and her protection for the city. She said the candidates showed that beauty is expressed through kindness, discipline, and dedication. She added, “Daghang salamat, and may this evening shine with purpose, pride, and the blessings of our beloved Birhen sa Regla.”

𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐄𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐉𝐨𝐢𝐧 𝐋𝐚𝐩𝐮-𝐋𝐚𝐩𝐮 𝐂𝐃𝐑𝐑𝐌𝐎 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐦

The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) held its 5th graduation ceremony on November 27, 2025, at the CDRRMO Headquarters in Barangay Gun-ob. Twenty-two graduates of the Basic Emergency Responders Training Course, representing the 5th batch under Team Alab, are now officially recognized as emergency responders of Lapu-Lapu City.

CDRRMO Officer IV, Mr. Sandy Martin Berame, delivered the welcome address and commended the graduates for their strong will and dedication in completing the rigorous training, which he described as “challenging.”

He acknowledged the struggles encountered by the trainees and encouraged them to apply their newly acquired skills to help make the community more resilient during disasters.

“Ayaw mo paghunong sa pagkat-on. Karon nga kamo responders na, hopefully na-practice ninyo ang inyong nakat-unan nga skills ug knowledge sa actual practice—you will become part of the responders,” Berame said.

CDRRMO Head Dr. Nagiel Bañacia also shared his message of support, highlighting the graduates’ passion and commitment as responders who serve the community with dedication and honor.

“This training is just an entry tool to this office. Daghan pa ta’g buhaton sa disaster risk reduction because our objective is nga kung sunog man gani, wa na gyuy masunogan,” he said.

He added that the main goal of DRRM is to achieve a disaster-resilient community.

Meanwhile, Fire District Superintendent Arnel S. Abella emphasized the crucial role of rescuers, who serve as the frontline in challenging situations.

The program continued with the recognition and awarding of certificates to the graduates.

City Councilor and Chairman of the Committee on DRRM, Marciano Alforque, on behalf of City Mayor Cindi King-Chan, expressed his warm congratulations and heartfelt pride to each graduate.

“Your journey does not end today; in fact, it begins now. In every rescue you respond to, every family you protect, and every life you save, you carry the responsibility of being guardians of the city and champions of preparedness. Our entire community stands behind you—grateful, confident, and inspired,” he stated.

The oathtaking was led by the 1st Honor and Academic Excellence Awardee, Kate U. Amores, followed by the confirmation of graduates, which was conducted by the City Human Resource Management and Development Office to confirm their appointment as official government employees.

Motorcycle and 10-Wheeler Truck Collide in Lapu-Lapu City

JUST IN: A serious accident involving a motorcycle and a 10-wheeler truck occurred in front of Carmelite School in Barangay Buaya today, September 8, 2025.

The driver of the motorcycle was identified as Jeff Lawrence Rojo Fuentes. Lapu-Lapu City's Congressman Junard "Ahong" Chan was quick to respond to the scene. Rescue units and authorities are on-site to assist.

We will provide further updates as more information becomes available.

𝗥𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝗿𝗱 𝘀𝗮𝗻𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗻 𝗢𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗼 𝗜𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱.

The Olango Island Wildlife Sanctuary is a protected area, established in 1992, and is one of the most significant migratory bird sanctuaries in the Philippines. It serves as a crucial feeding and resting ground for at least 97 different species of birds, with many of them migrating from as far away as Siberia and Northern China.

The best time to visit is during the migratory season, from September to May, when you can witness thousands of shorebirds, including species like the Chinese egret and Asiatic dowitcher.

Visiting the sanctuary also supports local conservation efforts and provides an opportunity to appreciate the unique mangrove ecosystem that sustains this rich biodiversity.

Tingo Elementary School Celebrating Buwan ng Wika 2025

A successful Buwan ng Wika celebration was held today, August 29, 2025, by Tingo Elementary School at the Barangay Tingo Gymnasium.

The event was led by the school principal, Ma'am Flora Calvo. Students enthusiastically participated, proudly wearing traditional Filipino cultural costumes.

The highlight of the event was the Lakambini and Lakam choosing of Best in Costume awards. Lhexine Paclebare was recognized as Ms. Lakambini for having the best costume, while Mike Joseph Bagano was named Mr. Lakan 2025 Best in Costume.
