No race this weekend. Just a shout-out of appreciation to photographers who cover running events. Shooting hundreds if not thousands of participants could be as physically-demanding as finishing a run, yet you still manage to capture the moments that we're too exhausted to remember.

Beyond the medals and the finisher shirts, your photos allow us to relive the sweat, grind, and triumph. The running community is better and happier because of your efforts. THANK YOU.

As my way of paying it forward, I pledge to shoot a running event sometime soon.

(Cheers to Bicolano Runner for this photo from last week's iRun Subic Bay event.)

Papunta pa lang kayo, pabalik na ako...

and in no way that statement is a brag, I'm just laying the context of the photo. This is from yesterday's iRun Subic Bay event, part of another double-run weekend for me (shout-out as well to Malolos runners at the Golden Steps Run last Saturday).

I caught this silhouette scene shortly after taking the U-turn (which meant I was past halfway of the 16KM run). I was on my way back, these three runners were still pushing forward to the midpoint. When we crossed paths, I told them, "konti na lang, may lechon doon sa U-turn", and they giggled back, though all of us were visibly short of breath from the exhaustion.

Just a half-hour ago, it was me in their situation, laboring but looking forward to the midway mark and hydration station. Some runners who were on the way back and passed me offered pep talks - "malapit na U-turn", "let's go!", or gestures like a simple nod or pumping their fist as their means of saying "keep going".

It reminded me that we're not just out there for the mileage - we also run for the mindset and culture we're trying to build. And I wish more people realize that encouragement is meant to be paid forward. When you cheer for others, you give them the fuel to cheer for the next person they pass.

It’s a simple concept : Pay the motivation forward. Whether you’re at the start, the U-turn, or the finish line, even a fleeting moment of encouragement empowers the person receiving it.

The challenge is hard enough as it is. Let’s make it a habit to lift each other up so we can all cross our respective finish lines.

The rarest kind of talent is one paired with such deep humility and kindness. You were a joy to be around and an inspiration to work with. The photography community is heartbroken to know that you are suddenly gone.

Keep chasing the light, Doc Erwin Lim. 🙏

FORERUNNER/FONESNAPPER | I'm not really a PR chaser. I run to clear my head and enjoy the experience of feeling alive. Of course, I need the workout, but I prefer a relaxed pace that allows me to also indulge my creative soul. My photographer instinct always wins out - if I see something interesting, I would no doubt stop and take a shot with my phone camera, running pace and elapsed time be damned.

Here are some of my favorite running snaps. All captured while my Strava's on.

The Force was definitely strong with this one! Star Wars Night Run is hands down my favorite running event by far. Not that big a fan of the George Lucas movie franchise but this race is a different story.

Elite ex*****on of a legendary theme. Loved the energy, atmosphere, and route preparation (infused with light effects and soundtrack music to sustain the vibes). Just superb from start to finish. What a fun and memorable evening. Big kudos to Runrio! 💯

Thanks to CN Creatives, Stories of Endurance, and VREA for the photos!

Isa-isang lumalaban
Iba't ibang patutunguhan
Kanya-kanyang kayod
Sari-saring diskarte at pagod
Salu-salungat man ang direksyon
Pare-pareho rin naman ang inspirasyon :
Kinabukasang punong-puno ng pag-asa
At buhay na hitik na hitik sa bunga.

Maligayang Araw ng Paggawa. 🫡

A GENTLE MASTERPIECE | Perched on the beautiful peaks of Pantabangan, Highland Bali Villas present a front-row seat to the majestic Sierra Madre and Caraballo mountains. These two great ranges meet in this region, creating the dramatic, layered horizon that surrounds Pantabangan Lake. A scenic sanctuary crafted by man and painted by nature.

26 kilometers. 2 hours of sleep. 🥵
From a 7PM gun start on Saturday evening for the Clark City Night Run (10KM), to the 4:30AM start of the Quingua Run (16KM) earlier today.

The brutal 12-hour stretch was a test of grit. After finishing the night run, then driving and getting home by midnight, I was back on the road by 3AM the next morning. The physical toll was real, and the final stretch was a struggle, but I’m keeping my eyes on the marathon goal for August.

Grateful to cross the finish line safely and for the community of runners and organizers who make these events possible. 🙏

Till the next one.

THE BAY : RETROSPECTIVE |
Facebook Memories reminded me that I was in Singapore exactly ten years ago today. I then realized I haven't shared this series of images here because I only started this photography page in 2017. Finally sharing these from my archive.

Missing Marina Bay, hands-down my favorite spot in SG. I could stay there all-day just taking photos!

Huge thanks to the Department of Finance for inviting me to facilitate a photography workshop for their team. The enthusiasm and curiosity from everyone made the session an absolute joy. A privilege to be part of your 129th Founding Anniversary celebration. 🙏🏼

Beyond the workshop, it was a throwback moment to reunite with my college thesismate Usec. Niño Alvina. First time to see him since our NCPAG days twenty-something years ago. Happy and proud of your success, Usec! 👏

Hope to see you all again next time. Cheers!
