WARSHIP WEDNESDAYS | BRP Dagupan City (LS551)

The BRP Dagupan City (LS551) is the second ship of the Philippine Navy’s Bacolod City-class logistics support vessels. Commissioned on April 5, 1994, she is patterned after the U.S. Army’s helicopter-capable Frank S. Besson-class design.

Built for versatility and endurance, she serves as a vital sealift platform capable of transporting troops, vehicles, heavy equipment, and cargo—even to shallow ports and remote, hard-to-reach coastal communities where larger vessels cannot operate effectively.

Beyond logistics, the BRP Dagupan City has consistently proven her value in real-world operations, particularly in humanitarian assistance and disaster response (HADR) missions. Her ability to quickly deliver relief goods, food packs, and essential supplies has made her a dependable asset during national emergencies.

Through decades of service, she continues to embody the Philippine Navy ’s commitment to readiness, mobility, and service to the nation—bridging islands, supporting frontline operations, and bringing aid where it is needed most, especially in the aftermath of natural disasters.
