ft. BAGAT DARAGA 💚

Bagat Daraga is a scenic, small mountain peak and viewpoint featuring a distinctive cliffside layout located in Brgy. Banban, Laua-an, Antique. Known for its sweeping views overlooking the West Philippine Sea, its history is deeply rooted in local Kinaray-a folklore, community geography, and its emergence as an eco-tourism destination.

Etymology and Folkloric Origins:
The "Meeting" of Maidens: In the local Kinaray-a dialect, bagat translates to "to meet" or "an encounter," while daraga means an "unmarried woman" or "maiden".

The Oral Legend:
According to local oral history passed down by elders in Laua-an, the cliff was traditionally named because it served as a prominent landmark or gathering point where young maidens (daraga) from the upland areas would rest or meet (bagat) others while traveling down from the mountains to the coastal areas.
