BAGACAY COPPER MINE
📖 🔟 FULL STORY
Bagacay Mine in Hinabangan, Western Samar began copper mining operations in 1956. For decades, the site became an important mining operation, using open-pit methods to extract and process copper ore.
Copper production continued until the mine's copper reserves were depleted in the 1980s. Operations later shifted toward pyrite, continuing until the mine finally ceased operations in 1992.
Today, the abandoned mine is remembered not only for its contribution to Philippine mining history but also for the environmental challenges left behind, making Bagacay an important story of both industrial development and mine rehabilitation.
