TUBOD, Lanao del Norte — The Mindanao Civic Center has earned a Third Field Certification from FIFA, qualifying the 71-hectare facility to host international football matches and bolstering the province’s goal of becoming a regional sports hub.

First District Rep. Imelda Quibranza Dimaporo announced the certification, signed by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, during a ceremony at the complex.

She said the milestone aligns with ongoing provincial investments in sports infrastructure to attract major competitions and boost local economic growth.

Designed by National Artist for Architecture Francisco "Bobby" Mañosa, the complex features a stadium, gymnasium, swimming pool, trade center, hotel, and motocross track. Dimaporo noted that the facility grew out of the province's hosting of the 2003 Palarong Pambansa.

The Philippine Sports Commission inspected the complex for potential designation as a regional training hub for Northern Mindanao athletes.

Second District Rep. Sittie Aminah Quibranza Dimaporo said the venue will host Philippine Football League matches and Philippine Volleyball League games in August.

She added that the provincial government is expanding sports tourism by promoting mountain biking, trail running, and youth sports camps.

San Juan City Mayor Francisco Javier Zamora, whose city maintains a sisterhood agreement with Lanao del Norte, said San Juan will coordinate with the Philippine Football Federation to explore organizing matches at the complex, including a friendship game between the two localities.

"Our sisterhood agreement is not just a document; it marks the beginning of a lasting relationship where we can support one another," Zamora said, offering assistance in sports development.

The project aligns with national initiatives to expand regional infrastructure and sports tourism.
