Amethyst brown dove (Phapitreron amethystinus)
Status: Critically Endangered (DAO 1029-09)

A secretive forest bird found only in the Philippines, known for its understated beauty and elusive nature. Cloaked in soft brown plumage with a subtle purplish sheen on its neck and breast, it blends seamlessly into the dense lowland and montane forests it inhabits. Its gentle, mournful coo often echoes through the canopy, a sound more familiar to birders than its shy appearance. Endemic to islands such as Luzon, Mindoro, Samar, Leyte, and Mindanao, the species thrives in undisturbed forest interiors but faces growing threats from deforestation and habitat loss.

Long-tailed shrike or rufous-backed shrike (Lanius schach)
Status: Least Concern

A widespread passerine bird found across much of Asia. It is easily recognized by its long, tapering tail, rufous-colored back and flanks, and the bold black mask that runs across its eyes, giving it a fierce expression. This shrike is a skilled hunter, often perching in open areas to scan for prey such as insects, lizards, and even small birds. True to its nickname “butcher bird,” it is known for impaling its catch on thorns or barbed wire, a behavior that helps it store food and tear prey apart more easily.

Philippine Eagle (Female)
Status: Critically Endangered (Dao 2019-09)(IUCN)

She is actively producing new Philippine Eagle in the wild.
2022-2023 - The Juvenile Philippine Eagle was successfully depart from the nesting site in search of a territory.

2024 - When the eaglet is four to five months old, it disappears from the nest.

Little pied flycatcher (Ficedula westermanni)
Status: Least Concern (IUCN)

A strikingly dimorphic bird of the Old World flycatcher family, found across the Himalayas and Southeast Asia, including parts of the Philippines. Males are bold black-and-white, while females are subdued gray-brown with pale underparts.
