I asked Manong if it’s ok to take his photo for the workshop.

He reminds me so much of my father. He used to drive a sikad when I was a kid. Later, he upgraded to a tricycle, the kind with a motorcycle and sidecar.

The tricycle we had the longest was eventually sold to a botebakal because it had already rusted beyond repair. It served our family well and helped provide for our needs for many years. Amping manong!

Did you know that the Fort Santiago Dungeon was not originally built as a prison? It was first constructed as a powder magazine for storing gunpowder during the Spanish colonial period. When the damp conditions made it unsuitable for explosives, it was converted into prison cells. Contrary to popular belief, historians have also debunked the story that prisoners were drowned by high tide, as the dungeon was built above the river level, making such flooding impossible.
