WHY DO YOU SHOOT FILM?

"I shoot film because it is literally how I learned how to take photos. My gf introduced me to film photography during the pandemic and the trust and thrill of taking a photo I don’t even know will turn out well got me hooked. I had to go full digital for financial reasons but I always yearned to shoot the medium again.

Late last year, I attended a fotomoto workshop that required us to shoot film. Expectedly, I got reeled back in. I was reminded why I needed to think and purposely compose each frame. Not just because it cost a lot per picture, but because pictures that I like tend to be made with intent behind it."

WHY DO YOU SHOOT FILM?

“Film wasn’t something I ever considered when I started out. It was just one of those coincidences that just happened. Once I had the chance to try it, I jumped in with no idea what i was doing. Then after shooting my first roll, I realized how fun it was. My first few rolls weren’t newsworthy but the whole experience stuck with me.

I don’t do it for the glory of the results (even if they get me excited every time). I do it to experience a side of life I would probably never have tried if I hadn’t gotten into film. It took a lot of mistakes to get me to where I am. And it will take a lot more to get to where I want to go with film.” — Joshua
