The Importance of Shadows in the Light

Shadows in the Light helps inspire people that there is still hope even though your shadow is the only one next to you. It is relevant and timely since there are still people that are lonely due to the pandemic and a growing anxiety among the youth. We want to convey a message to not be afraid of the shadows in front of you since it only means that there is a light shining behind you. Hopefully, this gallery will give them the light, hope, courage, and inspiration that they need in their lives.

Nature always has a soft spot in our hearts. Even before, I already had a huge affection for the beauty of mother nature. There is something about its beauty that would capture your breath, and it feels amazing. I feel relaxed and free whenever I'm surrounded by it.

The shadow of the leaf formed a lip. Looking at the picture, you might be mesmerized by the face without knowing that there's actually danger in front of you. The leaf actually comes from a poisonous plant. Philodendron is one of the plants that we have in our house that is actually poisonous when ingested. I didn't know about this until I bumped into a thread about poisonous house plants on the internet. I found it fascinating that we let our guard down since it just looks like any other leaf, but it is dangerous and is secretly waiting for its victim.

"Window of Hope"
Photo by: Vince Martin L. Salcedo

At the time of the pandemic, we are imposed to stay inside our homes. We are forced to do our day-to-day routine inside our walls. Being inside our rooms hinders us from enjoying the life we once had outside these walls. We can only hope to be outside despite being unable to do anything. Watching this window only makes us reminisce of what we could've been doing, had the pandemic not happened. Yet looking at the window gives us hope that everything will come to an end, hopefully this pandemic. All we can do now is hope for the best, an end to the pandemic.

"Peaceful Time"

This is a picture taken from my car, which I use every day for work and school. The weather in the sky is not the same every day. Sometimes it's sunny, sometimes it's cloudy, sometimes it's raining, and for me, the rainy time is a blissful moment, different and exceptional from when it's sunny or cloudy. It is always a happy and peaceful time when I ride in the car at the end of the work day, and the sound of rain hitting the car and seeing the drops of water dripping from the car window instantly blows away the fatigue of the day.

Dogs are great companions. They do not judge you, and they are always there for you, and they make you feel better. Sometimes they might break your shoes, but never your heart. Dogs show us love and affection uncondiotionally. We might not always be there for them, but they are always there for us. I will be forever grateful for the love my dog gave me for the short life span that they have.

Why Shadows in the Light?

Shadows and light coexist, and at first glance, they may appear to be analogous to good and evil, joy and sorrow, hope and despair, and life and death. However, shadows actually symbolize hope since it can only exist because there's a light shining somewhere. In this gallery we showcase the beauty of the shadows in the light. Each light has a story that only the shadow can tell, and if the shadow is gone, then that means there is only darkness. This will serve as a reminder that there's always hope as long as your shadows are with you.
