Baluarte de San Diego is one of the oldest and most historic stone fortifications inside Intramuros, Manila. Originally designed in the late 1500s by Jesuit priest and architect Antonio Sedeรฑo, this circular bastion once served as a defensive structure that protected the city from attacks coming from Manila Bay.
Walking through Baluarte de San Diego feels like stepping into a different era. Its stone walls, serene gardens, and preserved ruins tell stories of battles, colonization, and resilience. The combination of military architecture and peaceful greenery makes it a favorite spot for history lovers, photographers, and visitors looking to experience the quiet charm of old Manila.
Today, Baluarte de San Diego stands not just as a historic defense tower, but as a symbol of the Philippinesโ enduring strength โ a reminder of how the past continues to shape our identity and culture.
