Isa sa mga pinaka magandang ibon sa Pilipinas na hindi mo kailangang lumayo sa siyudad para makita.

Ang mga Black-naped Monarch (BNM) ay maaari ring makita sa kalapit lungsod ng Kalakhang-maynila, kagaya ng mga mapupunong lugar sa Taytay, Cainta, Antipolo o kahit mismo sa Quezon City.

Ang mga BNM ay sexually dimorphic species, ibig sabihin ang mga lalaki at babaeng ibon ay magkakaiba ng itsura; ang mga lalaki ay may kulay puti sa dibdib at purong asul ang likod, buntot, ulo at pakpak, ang mga lalaki din ay may itim na balahibo sa batok na wala sa mga babaeng BNM.
Ang balahibo ng mga babaeng BNM ay kulay brown sa likod, pakpak at buntot, asul naman sa ulo at puti sa dibdib.

Native sa Pilipinas ang mga BNM ngunit makikita din ito sa mga kalapit na bansa sa timog-silangang Asya.

This Little Heron was one of the birds we took a photo of during the 2nd leg of the QC Bird Race. We took a pause from the competition, and waited for this bird to catch its prey.

We were hearing unfamiliar chirps as we passed by a bamboo thicket, so we looked for it out of curiosity. We searched thoroughly until we saw a small tail-less bird. We were wondering what it could be until the parent Tailorbirds came out of the bushes, one with a prey on its beak, a tiny lizard. 😬

One parent Tailorbird posed in front of us for a moment, the other went to check their babies.
After a minute, the parents left with their two fledgelings, went deep inside the thick vegetation, probably to split their rations. 😆

We encountered this wasp struggling to take off with its prized catch.
The struggling caterpillar is dragging him down at first, but after several attempts of stinging its prey the wasp finally took off and brought its pasalubong to their nest.

We went to see the Northern/Chocolate Boobook! The total clip was 45 minutes, so we cut it short to 90 seconds, highlighting some of its behavior at daytime 💖

P.S. we are still not sure of the identity of the owl hence the options above, but one thing is for sure, it is a Boobook 🦉
