CAGAYAN DE ORO IS NOT A PROVINCE.โฃ

When I lived in Manila, people could tell I wasnโt from there because of my accent. Ang laging tanong, 'Taga-saang probinsya ka?' But when I answered, 'Hindi probinsya, Iโm from Cagayan de Oro City,' I was still labeled as 'probinsyano.'โฃ

May mga tao sa Manila na minsan hindi fully nare-recognize ang Cagayan de Oro as a โcityโ dahil sa historical misconceptions, geographic distance, at yung dominance ng Metro Manila sa pag-shape ng national urban identity. Pero in reality, chartered city na ang Cagayan de Oro since ๐๐ฎ๐ง๐ ๐๐, ๐๐๐๐ at highly urbanized city na siya since ๐๐๐๐.โฃ

Cagayan de Oro is a highly urbanized city sa Northern Mindanao. May sarili itong local government at independent siya from Misamis Oriental province pagdating sa administration.โฃ

Madalas nagkakaroon ng confusion dahil sa pangalan: meron kasing Cagayan province sa Luzon, kaya minsan napagkakamalan na pareho sila ng Cagayan de Oro.โฃ

Geographically, nasa loob ng Misamis Oriental ang CDO, pero hindi siya governed ng province โ politically independent siya, katulad ng Cebu City or Davao City.โฃ

Kaya kapag may nagsabi na province ang Cagayan de Oro, it's highly possible na nalilito lang sila either sa Cagayan province sa Luzon o sa Misamis Oriental.โฃ

Kaya minsan nagiging blurred ang distinction between provincial towns at highly urbanized cities sa everyday speech.โฃ
