Second time around on the trails of Kibalabag, Bukidnon.

So many things happened during this year’s edition that I never expected to translate into photographs, and I’m happy to have captured moments that words alone could never fully explain.

Thankful for the trust of Point Sports and RD Yoyong Sacayle.

Until the next event.

KTU 2026 (PHL) = Zegama 2026 (ESP)

Trail running in Europe feels different. The mountains become stadiums. Thousands hike up just to cheer for runners fighting every climb, every descent, every cutoff.

Sometimes I wonder… kanusa kaha ma ingani ang trail running sa Pilipinas?

We are surrounded by mountains. We have some of the most beautiful and brutal trails in the world. We have passionate runners, strong communities, and races that can humble even elite athletes. But trail running here still feels underground.

Maybe because our sports culture is still centered around basketball and mainstream events. Maybe because mountain sports are harder to access. Maybe because many people still don’t fully understand what trail runners endure out there for hours or even days.

But slowly, it’s growing.

One day, our mountains won’t just be places people pass through. They’ll become arenas filled with energy, noise, and people celebrating human endurance.

And honestly, Philippine trails deserve that kind of crowd.

Kibalabag is never easy, and it never will be. Another year on the trails of Kibalabag. The first edition was already relentless and brutal, but this year’s edition proved to be even more challenging. With the addition of Mt. Pagalungan, one of the most feared ascents, many runners trained hard for that section, only to find their time running out before the cutoff. Because of this, only a few runners were able to cross the finish line on time.

This year’s Kibalabag Trail Ultra 2026 highlight photos.

No better feeling than seeing your dad cheering you on during your hardest moments. This may just be a trail run, but there’s a saying: sports is life. Sports teaches lessons you’ll carry long after the finish line disappears, how to keep going when things get painful, how to stay calm under pressure, and how to believe in yourself when your legs want to quit.

And maybe one day, when this kid grows older, he won’t remember every kilometer of this race. But he’ll remember that his dad was there, cheering, waiting, recording every step, reminding him that he never had to face difficult climbs alone.

This kind of happening is why I love sports photography in general. You take an image and feel the energy around you in that very moment. Sometimes, the real story is not just the athlete on the trail, but the emotions, support, and human connection quietly unfolding around them.
