Boracay to Host 4th SEA Open Water Swimming Championships

Boracay Island is set to make waves as it hosts the 4th Southeast Asia (SEA) Open Water Swimming Championships from August 21 to 23, 2026, at Boracay Newcoast. Presented by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and organized by Philippine Aquatics, Inc. (PAI) in cooperation with Southeast Asia Aquatics, the Province of Aklan, and various government agencies, the event will bring together the region's top open water swimmers for three days of elite competition.
Approximately 100 to 120 athletes from eight Southeast Asian countries, including a 35-member Philippine team, are expected to compete in the 3-kilometer, 5-kilometer, and 10-kilometer races for both the men's and women's divisions. The championship will also feature 2K and 3K festival races that are open to swimmers of all levels.

According to PAI Secretary-General Eric Buhain, hosting the championship highlights the Philippines' commitment to developing open water swimming while promoting the country as a premier destination for international sports tourism. Following previous editions in Bali, Indonesia, and Pattaya, Thailand, Boracay now takes center stage as Southeast Asia's next host.
Beyond the competition, the event is expected to boost Boracay's tourism industry by welcoming athletes, coaches, officials, and visitors from across the region. Many international delegates are also planning to extend their stay to experience the island's world-famous white-sand beaches, crystal-clear waters, and renowned Filipino hospitality.

The 4th SEA Open Water Swimming Championships is more than just a sporting event—it is an opportunity to showcase Boracay as a world-class destination for both international competitions and unforgettable travel experiences.
