โœจ 10 Things I learned from working abroad โœจ

1. Being Alone is Okay

Over time, you will learn that being alone doesnโ€™t mean being lonely. Chance mo ito to discover who you are, mas maging independent, and embrace solitude as a time for self-reflection. In those quiet moments, you get a deeper understanding of your own needs and desires.

2. Learning to Say No is Empowering

Dahil nasa ibang environment ka, thereโ€™s often a pressure to please everyone, especially at work. However, learning to say โ€œnoโ€ kapag kailangan maintains your boundaries and protects your time and energy. Itโ€™s not about being difficult, but rather about recognizing your own limits and prioritizing kung anu ang mas mahalaga at importante sayo. Saying no allows you to say yes to opportunities that align with your goals and well-being.

3. Donโ€™t Be Afraid to Ask for Help

In a foreign country, mangagapa ka, there will be times when you donโ€™t know how things work or feel overwhelmed sa mga pagsubok. Asking for help is not a sign of weakness but a sign of strength. Nagpapakita ng willingness mong matuto at mag grow. Seeking assistance from colleagues, locals, or friends abroad can lead to valuable connections, shared experiences, and new perspectives that make your journey easier and more enjoyable.

4. You Are Stronger Than You Think You Are

Ang bagong kultura, lingwahe, expectations at mga problema minsan ay nakakalunod, but with each challenge, you realize that youโ€™re more resilient than you ever imagined. Whether itโ€™s overcoming homesickness or handling workplace stress, you discover inner reserves of strength that you didnโ€™t know existed.

5. You have to Struggle Until You Succeed

Walang madali agad sa umpisa. Nothing worthwhile comes without effort, and working abroad is no exception. The struggles you faceโ€” sa bagong kultura man ya, sa bagong lugar, trabaho atbp, lahat ng yan ay temporaryo. These experiences teach you persistence, patience, and the importance of hard work. Success may not come immediately, but the journey will make the eventual achievement all the more rewarding.

6. Problems Are Temporary

However, with time and experience, you learn that no problem lasts forever. You begin to trust that every challenge has a solution, even if itโ€™s not immediately obvious.

7. People Change Like Seasons

Youโ€™ll meet many people along your journey, some of whom may become close friends, while others will drift away. Over time, you marerealize more din na change is inevitable. It is the only constant thing in the world. You meet people for a purpose. People come into your life for different reasons and at different times, and not everyone will stay. This isnโ€™t something to be sad aboutโ€”itโ€™s a natural part of life. Be thankful for the memories and learn from them.

8. Always Be Proud of Yourself When No One Else Is

Working abroad can sometimes feel isolating, especially when your achievements go unnoticed by those back home or even by your peers. Learn to celebrate your wins, big or small.

9. Always Choose Yourself

While itโ€™s important to be considerate of others, working abroad teaches you the importance of putting yourself first sometimes. Unahin mo ang sarili mo. When faced with difficult decisions or challenging situations, always ask yourself, โ€œWhatโ€™s best for me?โ€ Learning to choose yourself doesnโ€™t make you selfishโ€”it makes you empowered to lead a life thatโ€™s true to your values and aspirations.

10. Be Humble

Always remember na kahit ano pa ang naabot mo sa buhay, there are still people better than you, smarter than you, richer than you, stronger than you. Being open-minded, respectful, and willing to adapt allows you to grow personally and professionally. Recognize that thereโ€™s always more to learn, and being humble will help you build meaningful relationships and become more well-rounded.
