Urban Youths Take Ownership of Popondetta Town Cleaning Initiative.

A group of committed urban youths in Popondetta is taking the lead in transforming the town through a community driven cleaning initiative aimed at creating a cleaner, healthier and more welcoming environment for residents, businesses and visitors.

The initiative reflects the determination of young people to take ownership of their community by regularly cleaning public areas, promoting proper waste disposal and encouraging civic responsibility. Their efforts are helping to build community pride while contributing to a safer and more attractive town.

To ensure the initiative is sustainable, the youth group has formally registered with the Investment Promotion Authority (IPA) and the Internal Revenue Commission (IRC). They have also opened a business group bank account and are establishing small business enterprises (SMEs) within Popondetta town to generate income. The proceeds will be used to purchase cleaning equipment and supplies, strengthen the town cleaning program and provide modest payments to participating youths who maintain daily operations.

While the youths have demonstrated initiative and commitment, they recognize that long term success will require strong partnerships with government agencies, local authorities, businesses and development partners.

The group is calling on the National Government, the Oro Provincial Government, Popondetta Town Authority, corporate organizations and the private sector to support the initiative through financial assistance, cleaning equipment, waste management services, training and public awareness programs. Such partnerships will enable the initiative to expand its reach and deliver lasting benefits to the community.

"Our young people are proving that they are not waiting for change, they are creating it. We believe that with the support of government and the private sector, this initiative can become a sustainable model for community development, youth employment and environmental stewardship," a spokesperson for the youth group said.

The organizers also encourage residents, businesses, schools, churches and community organizations to join the movement by keeping their surroundings clean, disposing of waste responsibly and supporting community clean up activities.

The Popondetta Town Cleaning Initiative demonstrates that when young people are empowered and communities work together, they can create cleaner public spaces, generate employment opportunities and build a brighter future for Oro Province.
