🐆 Balam es un jaguar de apenas un año de edad. Aún debería estar recorriendo la selva junto a su madre, aprendiendo a cazar y sobrevivir. Sin embargo, ella fue asesinada por cazadores furtivos y él terminó encerrado en una pequeña jaula, malnutrido y privado de su libertad.
🐆 Rescatado por las autoridades con apenas tres meses de edad, fue trasladado al Centro de Rescate Taricaya, donde recibió atención veterinaria especializada y la nutrición necesaria para sobrevivir.
🐆 Hoy, su futuro es incierto. El contacto humano durante su crianza lo llevó a asociar a las personas con alimento y seguridad. Este es uno de los mayores desafíos para la reintroducción de grandes depredadores: un jaguar que no teme al ser humano puede convertirse en un riesgo para comunidades rurales al buscar alimento fácil cerca de viviendas y animales domésticos.
🐆 La alternativa de trasladarlo a zonas remotas también presenta dificultades. Allí tendría que enfrentarse a jaguares silvestres con territorios establecidos, y la falta de aprendizaje natural junto a su madre lo hace especialmente vulnerable. Una lesión en la selva puede significar una sentencia de muerte.
🐆 Ojalá algún día Balam pueda regresar al bosque que le pertenece. De no ser posible, permanecerá bajo cuidado humano, recibiendo la mejor calidad de vida que se le pueda ofrecer.
🐆 Durante nuestro Taller Fotográfico Pro-Fondos para el Centro de Rescate Taricaya, en Tambopata, nuestra misión es contar las historias detrás del tráfico ilegal de vida silvestre y mostrar el trauma que enfrentan miles de animales cada año. Solo una pequeña fracción sobrevive.

🌿 El Foto Taricaya Workshop continua…
📷☀️ Al amanecer preparamos nuestras cámaras y nos internamos en el bosque rumbo a una experiencia difícil de olvidar. Cruzamos un puente colgante (canopy walkway) de 90 metros hasta llegar a una plataforma a 42 metros de altura, en la copa de una gigantesca Lupuna (Ceiba sp.), uno de los árboles madre más altos del bosque y guardián de la Amazonía.
🌳🐒 Desde allí arriba disfrutamos de una vista espectacular sobre el inmenso dosel amazónico. Fuimos testigos de cómo una familia de monos aulladores recibía los primeros rayos del amanecer mientras anunciaba su territorio. Guacamayos, loros y aves multicolores nos mantenian atentos con nuestras camaras.
📷🍀 Más que una salida fotográfica, fue una experiencia vivencial. Observar el bosque desde lo alto nos permite conectar con la naturaleza de una forma única, aprendiendo, descubriendo y comprendiendo por qué es tan importante proteger este extraordinario ecosistema, y la labor de la fotografía al generar conciencia medioambiental.

📸🌿 Continuando con nuestro taller fotográfico Pro Fondos para el Centro de Rescate Taricaya, exploramos las posibilidades de la iluminación artificial en un estudio portátil de campo, siempre en un ambiente controlado que garantiza la seguridad y el bienestar de cada especie.
🦜 Entre los sonidos de la selva, esta aventura nos permitió conocer de cerca a un pequeño pichón de guacamayo escarlata (Ara macao), rescatado del tráfico ilegal de vida silvestre. Llegó indefenso, casi sin plumas, pero gracias al cuidado y dedicación de los veterinarios que lo alimentan a mano, hoy lucha por crecer fuerte y saludable.
🍀 Poco a poco, este pequeño habitante de la selva se transformará en un majestuoso guacamayo que algún día volverá a surcar libremente los cielos de la Reserva Ecológica Taricaya, en Tambopata, Perú, junto a otros que ya recuperaron su libertad mostrados en las fotos finales. Recordemos siempre que los animales silvestres no son mascotas!!!

🦜 This friendly little fellow is a Blue-headed Parrot (Pionus menstruus) rescued from the illegal wildlife trade by authorities and is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the Taricaya Rescue Center in Peru before being released back into the wild.
🍀 It is extremely important not to buy birds or any wildlife from the illegal trade — Wild Animals are Not Pets!
🌎 In many Latin American countries, birds are the most trafficked group of wild animals. In Peru alone, studies and reports show that birds represent between 40% and 60% of animals confiscated from illegal trafficking.
It is estimated that only 1 out of every 10 captured birds survives long enough to reach the final buyer due to stress, overcrowding, and terrible transport conditions.
🦜 Parrots, macaws, parakeets, and songbirds are among the most affected species.
☠️ Illegal bird trafficking is one of the largest illicit businesses in the world and poses a serious threat to biodiversity, especially in the Amazon.

Golden-mantled Saddle-back Tamarin (Leontocebus tripartitus)
🐒 A tiny primate with a striking golden-orange mantle across its head, shoulders, and upper back, making it one of the most beautiful tamarins of the Amazon.
🍀 Found in the lowland rainforests of northeastern Peru and eastern Ecuador, this diurnal and arboreal species spends its days moving through the canopy in small family groups, feeding on insects, fruits, nectar, and tree exudates.
🐒 This little fellow was rescued from the illegal pet trade and is now being cared for at El Huayco – Centro Nacional de la Biodiversidad, Peru, where he is receiving proper species-specific nutrition and the best veterinary care during his rehabilitation.
⚠️ Conservation status: Near Threatened (NT) according to the IUCN Red List, mainly due to ongoing habitat loss and deforestation.
WILD ANIMALS ARE NOT PETS!!! 🚫🐒

👍 Very soon, it will open its doors as a center for education and interpretation, dedicated to highlighting the importance of conservation and the vital role each species plays in the ecology of its habitat. 🌿✨
