Capturing the mighty Sutherland Falls on the Milford Track! ๐Ÿ“ท

A couple of different perspectives of Mackay Falls on the Milford Track. Around every corner of the track seems to be a scene that makes you gape in wonder, and this is definitely one of my favourites. I love all of the delicate green mosses and ferns framing the chasm of glacial water, as it journeys its way down from the mountain ranges of Fiordland ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ”

Birdlife on the Milford Track ๐Ÿ“ท ๐Ÿฆ…

We didn't have any views up the top of MacKinnon Pass, but a group of inquisitive Kea kept us entertained!

Climate change is becoming an issue for the Kea, as warming temperatures drive the snow line ever-upwards, creating more habitable temperatures in alpine environments for this mountain parrot's main predators.

Down in the Clinton Valley we spotted two pairs of Whio at different locations along the river. The second pair was close enough that we could get a couple of photos.

I've always thought that Whio have a very prehistoric look to them, with their little yellow eyes and unusually shaped beaks.

Whio live in one of the most challenging environments of the world - fast flowing rivers making them expert white water rafters!

Haven't had the chance to go on too many photography missions as of late, so here's a little adventure from last summer - the adorable Meg Hut in the Otago high country.

I think we're going to have to return for a sunset/sunrise mission sometime to get some epic landscape shots for our print store ๐Ÿ™Œ

A few pics from the Heaphy Track - Feb 2020! I love looking back on old photos, it's like revisiting a favourite book.

At 82km, the Heaphy Track is the longest of New Zealand's great walks, and in my opinion, the most underrated. It traverses the Kahurangi National Park, beginning at Aorere Valley in Golden Bay and finishing in Karamea on the West Coast ๐ŸŒŠ

Time spent in nature builds resilience in the face of challenge and hardship, it strengthens our bond with the land and reminds us that our biodiversity and natural landscapes are worth protecting ๐Ÿ’š

I recently wrote a blog on off-track camping at Biggs Tops in Kahurangi National Park - could serve as some inspo for anyone looking for DoC hut/campsite alternatives this summer! โ›บ๏ธ ๐Ÿฅพ

Somewhere off the beaten path of the Wangapeka Track, lies the most sublime wild camping setting deep in the heart of the Kahurangi National Park. We endured the blistering heat of a summer heatwave in Nelson to seek solitude and wonder in the mountains.

You never know what you're going to get in the mountains! ๐Ÿ”

We hiked the Tama Lakes Track under clear skies, hoping to catch sunset from Upper Tama Lake. We enjoyed unobstructed views of Mount Ruapehu and Ngauruhoe as we gradually gained elevation, but upon reaching Lower Tama Lake, low-hanging cloud began to roll in, completely covering the mountains and blocking the sun ๐Ÿ™

Slightly disappointed, we accepted that sunset was going to be a non-event (the photographer's curse ๐Ÿ˜‰), when suddenly golden beams of light broke through a gap in the clouds, fanning out over Tongariro National Park and illuminating the details in the landscape.

It wasn't exactly the classic scene, but it was one of my favourite sunsets ever ๐Ÿ˜ฒ โœจ

Such a short walk in Tongariro National Park for such a rewarding scene! The last time we visited we even saw a baby whio (blue duck) and its mother ๐Ÿฅฐ
