SNEAK PEEK

This fabulous family had ten kids spanning eighteen years, and together they were some of the most fun I have ever had on a session. Along with their parents, each and every one of them had a unique personality, a spark of life and found their place within the group.

Having not had family photos in a good few years, not only did they gather everyone together, including the oldest, who was visiting for a few days, but they were perfectly colour coordinated, full of joy and just happy to be together and creating memories that they'll cherish for the rest of their lives.

I love this image, a moment of calm before the running races started, the funny faces came out and we captured all the other combinations. Thank you Mellissa & Mark for choosing us to create such priceless memories for you!

Give Dad the voucher now, then choose a date later in the year when you can actually get everyone together.
And if Dad isn't on your shopping list this year, keep this one in mind for Christmas.
Especially if you've got teenagers who are about to leave

THIS FATHER'S DAY, MAKE SURE DAD’S IN THE PHOTO.

Does the Dad in your family actively avoid the camera?

Is his response always "Just take one of you and the kids." or "I'll do it another time."
I know it's easy to think there will always be another opportunity.

Until the kids grow up.
Until they leave home.
Until life changes.
Or, sometimes, until Dad isn't here anymore.

Then the photographs you didn't make time for become incredibly important.
Don't miss what you'll cherish in the future...

SNEAK PEEK

The last time the Thomas family had photos, they were waiting for their little one to arrive. And now, there are five of them.

And I think this is one of the reasons families should pause time and capture photos at all stages, because when you’re in the middle of raising children, it can feel like everything is changing all the time. One minute they’re tiny, and the next they’re taller, their personalities are developing, and you’re wondering where the years went.

At their consultation they chose to keep things relaxed and casual, with lots of candid moments alongside portraits, using the brown and charcoal backdrops they loved. Just this family, together, at this particular point in their story. Because one day, these kids will be grown. They’ll look back at these photographs and see the people they loved most, the memories, the way their parents looked at them, and who they were before they became the adults they will eventually be.

That’s what family photographs are really for. Not just remembering what your children looked like, but giving them something to look back on and remember what it felt like to beloved.

MEDALS & GALA

Every entry into the Iris Awards (the national competition) that is awarded receives points, Bronze = 0.5, Silvers = 1, golds = 2. This year I achieved a level of distinction that I have been working towards for 3 years, my Masters. And on top of that I was very excited to find out that I had also achieved the next level "Masters with Distinction" too!

The biggest surprise of the night was finding out that our region Auckland/Northland (who happens to often fall at the bottom of the charts) was actually first place equal with Canterbury/Westland in the Curtis Poole Award. For the highest number of points of the top entires of the top four photographers. With only 3 points between 1st and 3rd place.

IS DAD IS OFTEN MISSING FROM THE FAMILY PHOTOS?

Not because he's not there.

He's there for the birthdays, the holidays, the family dinners, the weekends away and all the ordinary days in between. So there are plenty of photographs of the kids growing up. Plenty of Mum with the kids. Plenty of Dad with the kids.

But not that many of everyone together.
Now is the time to change that www.sarahleestudio.co.nz/father-day-26

ON STAGE & MIC’D UP

This was the 7th year I have had the honour of being on the judging panel for the Iris Awards,. This year meant being part of the Wedding, Newborn, Family, Portrait & Creative Portrait category judging panels.

Plus I was also asked to host the second stage in ‘Shed 25’ for a full two days, getting to introduce the amazing speakers from all over Nz, Europe and Australia. And while those images are yet to be released I will be sharing them in the coming weeks both here and on social media.

SNEAK PEEK ~ 12 WOMEN PROJECT

For the past few years, Christine has been navigating what it means to rediscover herself. To look beyond the roles she has spent so much of her life embracing and ask a really important question: Who is Christine?

She describes herself as a mum, a friend, a teacher and a kind, big-hearted woman who feels deeply. Someone who naturally tries to make everyone else happy and, somewhere along the way, can forget to put herself first. Now she is ready to change that. To grow, to find more happiness within herself and to celebrate the woman she is becoming.

There is something incredibly powerful about deciding that you are worth celebrating simply because you are you. Not because you've achieved something, changed something or become someone different, but because the woman underneath all those roles has always been worth it.

This session was about giving Christine the space to step into that new woman. Strong, positive, confident, courageous and completely herself. It was an absolute joy to capture this part of your journey, Christine. Thank you for trusting me with it.

We still have a few spaces left in The Twelve Women Project. If you're ready to rediscover yourself and be seen for who you really are, I'd love to hear your story.
