Cape Palliser lighthouse!

This beauty sits on the lower North Island at Cape Palliser. Sitting 78m above sea level with a height of 18m! There's just a few steps to reach the top but it's worth it. She's been looking after the Cape since 1897. The red and white stripes help to distinguish it from the rugged hills behind it. Dog Island and Cape Campbell lighthouses are the only other ones to have stripes!

Next up on the lighthouse tour...

Nugget Point, Southland
This gorgeous lighthouse sits 76m above sea level at a height of only 9m. It was completed in 1870 and is recognised by the little "nuggets" of rock formations around the base of the point it sits on. Great place to stop and watch the storms roll by as well!

There is officially 23 light houses on Maritime NZ list and so many more that were previously working and no longer. Trying to capture as many as I can! Still a few to go but over the next little while I'll show off the ones I have captured so far!

First up - Waipapa Point, Southland
This lighthouse sits 21m above sea level with a height of 13m. It was completed in 1884 and was a response from one of the worst civilian shipwrecks in NZ, the Passenger Steamer Tararua.

The biggest solar storm for many years put on an amazing show. This was taken from Waiinu Beach, west of Whanganui. Braving the cold was definitely worth it!!
