✨ I’m making the final edits to my latest fine art series, Gently Held. I’m also learning that good things take a little longer for me these days — but I keep going, step by step.

This series is an exploration of softness, stillness, and the light that holds us.

Test prints are on their way, and soon these works will be available in my online shop.
You can take an early look here: https://wonderbird.nz/gently-held

Thanks again to Forough Yavari for creatively holding my hand as I gently rekindle my creative spirit.

🌌 Eta Aquariids meteor shower

I try to convince myself that I prefer sleep over waking in the wee hours… but the magic of the sky keeps pulling me out of bed. ✨

This morning’s adventure with my photography buddy Bob Zuur (thanks again for all the tips and expertise as I learn to photograph our night sky!) was all about chasing the annual Eta Aquariids meteor shower as Earth passes through a trail of cosmic debris left behind by Halley’s Comet.

📸 These 10 merged images were captured between 4:45am and 6am, Tuesday 6 May 2025, from the lookout at the top of Paekākāriki Hill Road. Bob and I saw many more meteors during our early morning outing, some very big ones that were just out of frame and some that my camera just didn't capture well – perhaps they were just too fast.

✨ Venus shines brightly as the “morning star,” and if you look closely, Saturn is above Venus and Mercury is just rising above the hill on the bottom right. And if you look even more closely—you’ll spot ten meteors.

A magical evening with the Venus, Saturn 🪐, Comet C/2024 G3 Atlas (which passes by earth every 160,000 years!) and Bioluminescence in the ocean. So much awe — the beauty of our nature.

As 2024 draws closer to a close, I’m looking forward to the magic of a three-week creative staycation starting at the end of next week ✨. This season of stillness will be such a gift—a chance to dive deeper into the new creative techniques I’ve been experimenting with, both in-camera and through post-production. And to continue with my drawing.

There is so much more to explore in the world of color, light, and form as part of my "We are not alone" project. 💫. Here’s a glimpse of one of my recent creations—an ICM image of a peony 🌸. I was in awe of the delicate layers that make up this single bloom, petal upon petal, each one unfolding in its own time. It’s a reminder of the fleeting beauty in nature, the way something tight, closed, self protected, can open to reveal so much richness—just like the unfolding of our own creative journeys 🌱.

May creativity bloom for us all this holiday season.🎄🎨📸

For the past five years, my personal art practice has been largely on hold after life took an unexpected turn, and it’s been challenging to return to it. That’s why I’m so grateful to be working with the incredibly talented Forough Yavari who is mentoring me through an NZIPP - the New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography programme as I rediscover my creative footing. We don’t have to do everything alone. 💫

I’m naturally drawn to softness, beauty, quiet, and nature, and this project, which has been on and off for a few years, is now emerging with renewed energy. Here’s a work in progress—working title ‘Gently Held.’ Fine detailing edit refinements along with more about this project coming soon. 🪶

A magical way to spend an evening, chasing a comet that last passed by earth 🌎 80,000 years ago!

Thanks to Bob Zuur for the company, the tips and the shared excitement when we manage to find the little pixel in the sky with our lenses.

Wide shot shows Venus to the left, the Milky Way above and Comet c/2023 a3 above the horizon. ☄️

The magic of Aurora Australis continues to captivate me. It felt magical to experience the Aurora up in Kawhia, a very special place for me, this past weekend. Deeply special for me to be back out with my camera in this area. I learned that the arc on the left is a SAR arc. So much to learn about the depths of our night skies.

The fresh blooms of spring have arrived in my garden. I am loving exploring new photographic techniques in my little home studio with many of the new flowers. These images of a tulip combine ICM (in camera movement), second curtain sync flash, and multiple exposure.

Well the Aurora kept on going, so I had to get up at about 5am to head back to the beach. I was warned this can get addictive! Very special being out on the beach alone in the wee hours (with Adie snuggled up warm in the car) with nature offering so much beauty. I was excited by the red hues and the forms that differed from what I saw at 7.30pm last night. Very grateful to have experienced this.
