The Hurricanes will play host to the Blues in a Super Rugby Pacific semi-final in Wellington next Saturday after an emphatic victory against the Brumbies on a wet and wild night in the capital.

Coach Clark Laidlaw’s side vanquished some qualifying-final demons, avenging playoff defeats to the same opposition in 2022, 2023 and 2025 with a record 66-12 victory on a wet and wild evening in the capital.

The one-sided encounter extended the Hurricanes’ unbeaten record in Wellington in 2026 and left them just two wins away from a second Super Rugby title.

Replacement winger Ngane Punivai scored a second-half hat-trick was the man of the moment as the contest was effectively over by halftime after clinical first half from the canes. Unfazed by the potentially tricky conditions and the slippery ball, the Hurricanes raced into a 38-7 lead after scoring five first-half tries with Ruben Love, Caleb Delany, Cam Roigard, Warner Dearns and Billy Proctor all scoring tries.

Ruben Love scored the opening try with a quick counterattacking move before Billy Proctor and Callum Harkin sent lock Caleb Delany over shortly after Proctor and Warner Dearns exposed holes in the Brumbies defence to add points to scoreboard before. The Brumbies finally got on the board at 31-0 when Corey Toole dived over shortly after Cam Roigard added a fifth try to banish any hopes of a comeback.

After half-time Hurricanes topped 50 points for the sixth time this season when Punivai collected a loose pass and sprinted 55 metres shortly after Punivai added a second before completing his hat-trick in the 79th after catching a cross-field kick from Love.

The 66-point haul amassed by the Hurricanes’ handed the Brumbies their heaviest-ever defeat along with the worst loss by an Australian team in Super Rugby finals. Another notable stat was Ruben Love scoring 21 points himself in another sublime and commanding all-round performance, landing all nine conversions and one penalty in a perfect night from the tee.

The Chiefs will now take on the Crusaders in Hamilton after a nervy encounter against the Reds.

Photo highlights from yesterday's Super Rugby Pacific Round 16 clash between the Crusaders and the Hurricanes which was played at Christchurch's One NZ Stadium.

An emphatic display from the Crusaders might just give them a chance to put their superb home playoff record on the line after hammering the top-seeded but under-strength Hurricanes 47-14 in Christchurch on Friday night.

The Crusaders will surge past the Blues and secure the No 3 seed if the Chiefs knock over the Blues in Hamilton which would grant them a first round playoff fixture at One New Zealand Stadium next Saturday afternoon.

The Crusaders have, after all, won all 32 playoff games they've hosted. Centurion Sevu Reece scored two tries as the homeside locked up a top four finish. The Crusaders were also far from full strength on a night the Hurricanes had nothing to play for and rested several members of their first team squad.

As halftime approached the Crusaders rolled into 26-7 lead, running in four tries to one in front of another 25,000 strong sell out crowd. Hotham’s try was the pick of the bunch, the final product of a sweeping counter-attack.

In the second half the game became a stale encounter and with the only talking point the pyrotechnics. Twenty years after the infamous fog final between the same teams which ultimately played a part in the mountain of errors both teams made.

Crusaders finally managed to make some passes stick, and ran in three more tries to blow the Hurricanes off the park and improve to 4-0 in their new stadium. Fittingly, the hosts allowed Reece to attempt to convert his 77th minute try, which he calmly slotted from the sideline to finish the regular season.

Photo highlights from Friday's Super Rugby Pacific Round 15 clash between the Crusaders and the Chiefs which was played at the One NZ Stadium in Christchurch.

A thrilling encounter enused in a repeat of last season's final. A tight encounter ensued between the two teams as the Crusaders edged the match with a 36-32 win in Christchurch on Friday night which kept the Crusader's hopes of finishing third and securing home qualifying alive, and continued their dominance over the visitors with their third straight win over the Chiefs.

Crusaders captain David Havili completed the comeback after 75th minute try. Havili's match-winner nearly lifted the roof off of the One New Zealand Stadium with fans going wild, after he gathered a Leicester Fainga’anuku offload in sublime fashion before proceeding to dive over much to the delight of the home crowd.

The Crusaders had trailed 32-24 with just fifteen minutes left which makes the result even more remarkable.

The Crusaders take on the Hurricanes next Friday in what promises to be a mouthwatering encounter in the garden city.

Photo highlights from yesterday's Liberty A-League semi-final second leg between the Wellington Phoenix and Brisbane Roar which was played at Porirua Park on a stunning afternoon in the capital.

The Wellington Phoenix created history sealing a A-League Women grand final against Melbourne City after an extra-time semi-final marathon against Brisbane Roar.

American striker Makala Woods sealed a dramatic 2-0 second-leg win - (3-2 aggregate victory) - with a double the second of which came in the 102nd minute, sending a record Porirua Park crowd of 5,923 into a frenzy. The Phoenix took just 42 minutes to wipe out the deficit from the previous encounter as Makala Woods latched onto a sublime pass from 17-year-old Pia Vlok on the halfway line which sent the striker through on goal before emphatically firing past the oncoming Brisbane Roar goalkeeper.

After the equaliser the home side created opportunities but could not convert until Makala Woods raced through during a swift counter attacking move and made no mistake in the first half of extra time, calmly slotting home despite the last ditch attempts of the Brisbane Roar goalkeeper.

After Woods gave the home side the aggregate lead, the Phoenix dug deep throughout the second half of extra time to book their place in next weekend’s grand final much to the delight of their fans after back-to-back wooden spoon finishes in their first two seasons, the yellow fever are now just 90 minutes from the club’s first A-League title.

Defenders Ellie Walker, Mackenzie Barry and Marisa van der Meer all put in huge shifts, barely giving the Roar an inch throughout. Coach Bev Priestman was full of praise for her squad and coaching staff said in her post-match press conference, surrounded by her entire coaching staff to highlight the collective effort.

Photo highlights from yesterday's Super Rugby Pacific Round 12 clash between the Hurricanes and Crusaders which was played on a stunning clear night in the capital.

The Hurricanes went into the nights proceedings knowing that a win would take them clear at the top of the table aswell as extend their unbeaten run at the Hnry Stadium in 2026 and increase the probability of a top of the table finish which will guarantee the all important home advantage during the play offs.

The home side edged the encounter against the defending champions Crusaders 38-31 after a controversial try to in-form winger Fehi Fineanganofo to open up a four-point gap on the Chiefs.

The two teams battled throughout the round 12 clash in what was a tight encounter up until a late first-half burst which proved to be the decisive difference, with the Hurricanes claiming their eighth win. The most contentious moment came when Fehi Fineanganofo latched onto an offload from Isaia Walker-Leawere despite appearing to be well ahead of the passer. The try survived a detailed TMO review for a potential forward pass, ultimately taking his tally to 15 for the season.

Crusaders coach Rob Penney appeared to have few complaints after the close defeat instead stating he was disappointed with the poor finishing the visitors showed throughout. The Crusaders threatened an upset on a number of occasions with the half appearing to end in a 10-10 stalemate before the Hurricanes struck twice in four minutes to open a 14-point lead. Both sides exchanged points throughout making for an end to end affair throughout until the Crusaders came out with a bang for the second half when Noah Hotham brought the Crusaders back within a converted try early in the second half.

The Hurricanes hit back shortly after when replacement ho**er Raymond Tuputupu dived over to re gain control of the encounter. After Fehi Fineanganofo’s contentious try stood, the Crusaders hit back yet again through Gardiner to cut the deficit to seven and salvage a bonus point

Next week Crusaders host the Blues under the roof at One Zealand Stadium in Christchurch next Friday, while the Hurricanes will have the perfect opportunity to rest some of their frontline players after a brutal run of fixtures when they travel to face the last-place Moana Pasifika.

Hurricanes 38-31 Crusaders
