Rowe & Co Photography Affordable, quality photography of your special family moments! Our style is minimal editing emphasising colours, and mainly candid with a few posed shots.

We're a husband and wife photography team, based in Lower Hutt. My husband, Alex, offers drone videography/photography and does the final edits on all our photos. Whereas I, Rachael, specialise in maternity and families. I have a Diploma in Photography, and Certificates in newborn photography, portfolio critique and social media, marketi

ng, business and branding for photographers. I worked in Digital Marketing Communications for 15 years specialising in social media (and as a qualified nanny before that!) before developing my career as a photographer. Being a Mum myself, I know how we never get pictures of ourselves unless it's a selfie so I want to help capture the natural moments between you and your children. For only $180 (normally $300!) you get a 30 minute on location shoot for up to six people with 20 edited digital photos included in that price that you get to select, with the option to choose more if you want...added bonus our editor chooses a handful of your selected photos to turn into black and white copies at no additional cost.

We do a mix of posed and candid. Group, individual, couple, siblings all within the one session. Must be shot before end of May 2026.

Even better? You only have to pay a $50 deposit to hold your spot, the remainder can be paid by instalment but must be paid in full two weeks before the shoot.

I've been very fortunate to have many lovely couples in front of my camera in the 12 months.

Trigger warning - Talks about Mount Maunganui slip

I went back and forth about whether I should share these photos from my family's holiday in Mount Maunganui in late January as most of these photos were taken the morning of the slip. We had no idea what was happening behind us. In some of the later photos, which I won't share, you can see the helicopters and Fire trucks arriving to the scene. It was only as we were leaving that we got notifications of what was going on.

Two days before we had done the base walk around 9.30am in similar weather to the morning of the slip, and had considered trying to better our time/so the boys could mine (Minecraft) that morning, thankfully we decided it was great shoot weather so did that instead.

We had also been at the hot pools a few days earlier, and it sent shivers down my back seeing the kids' slides my children had been going down now half covered with a campervan.

Mount Maunganui has always been really special to Alex and I. I grew up staying in tents at the campground for a couple of weeks every Summer with my family, later staying at the motels across the road when they were built. Alex's family have a beach house down the road a bit from the main beach - I like to think we had walked past each other as kids sometime 😉

Alex and I started going to his parents' beach house in the Summers, and Alex proposed while we were around Pilot Bay. We got married at the, now red stickered, Life Guard Clubhouse by the camp ground, it was meant to be at Shelley Beach by the Mount base but the unpredictable February weather manage to ruin all our plans.

This is the first time we had driven all the way up there with our three boys - which was no easy feat as they can only manage two hours in the car at a time. Previously we had flown with the older two but our youngest had never been. Years before our third we had come back to these locations with just the older two to get updated photos where Alex and I had some of our wedding photos taken, and hoped to continue that tradition as the boys grow up.

Mount Maunganui is a beautiful location, with lovely memories for many people. What happened there is beyond tragic, it certainly left me very shaken up, and I can only begin to imagine how hard it was for those involved.

Our thoughts are with everyone who was impacted by this horrific situation.

It was fantastic to be part of capturing this multigenerational family shoot - there was a baby and toddler there as well but I won't share their photos at the request of the family.

I have a lot of time and respect of the older generation after having my Gran be a huge part of my upbringing as a child.
