Just back from Melbourne 🇦🇺
A few days away with the family (school holidays here in NZ) — and remarkably few teenage tantrums. Shockingly, it was my first time in Melbourne, and I have to say, I was blown away.
Don’t get me wrong — I love Wellington and after 10 years here I’ve even joined in with the NZ/AUS rivalry banter. But it was refreshing to experience a city that really competes on a world scale — the architecture, the public transport, the density of good design everywhere you look. There’s always something new being built.
I managed to sneak away for a few hours with my camera — exploring Fitzroy and Brunswick on a sunny afternoon, stumbling across Tadao Ando’s MPavilion (his only building in the southern hemisphere), and seeing living architecture actually realised rather than just rendered. The adaptive reuse of old buildings gave the city a real pulse — a sense that architecture there isn’t just built, it’s lived.
All of it has me inspired — and motivated to work more across both New Zealand and Australia, photographing the evolving architecture of these incredible places. If you’re an architect, designer, or developer working on a project you’re proud of, I’d love to collaborate and help you share it with the world.
📸 Architecture deserves to be seen — beautifully.
