Gender equality and anti-racism are some of the topics that I vote for. I’ve already lived in Brazil, Portugal, Australia, the US, and since 2019 I live in this amazing country called New Zealand. All those different points of view about cultures and their forms of interaction expanded my photographic view about love and connection that exists in this immense world. Most of us don’t drink our coffee.

We rush through it.

While answering messages, checking the time, thinking about the next task and barely noticing what is right in front of us.

CafĂŠ photography sessions always bring me back to the present moment. Behind the camera, I begin to notice everything again: the steam rising from a cup, the colours on the plate, the texture of the food, the light touching the table and the hands behind every detail.

Photographing Odd Beans reminded me that mindfulness doesn’t always mean sitting in silence.

Sometimes, it simply means slowing down long enough to truly experience the moment you’re already in.

And every detail at Odd Beans carries a piece of Saby: a creative, multifaceted mum who imagined and created this beautiful space in Petone with so much personality and heart.

I almost said no to this project.

Hana came to me wanting photos for her book launch.
My schedule was full. No space. No time.

But something didn’t feel right about just letting it go.

So I made a different offer:

“What if we create something that doesn’t end on launch day?”

Not just photos.
A story. A presence. Something people could feel.

She said yes.

And this… is what happened.

What you’re watching isn’t just content.
It’s the essence of an artist being translated into image, movement, and emotion.

Working with Hana reminded me of something I deeply believe:
when the story is real, you don’t need to force connection… people feel it.

And now, her story continues beyond the screen.

Her exhibition is happening this Sunday.
If you’re nearby, go experience it in person. It’s something else.
