Plastics 3-7 are heading for landfills in more and more districts in NZ as there's no place to recycle them. Hopefully this crisis will be a motivation to rethink our global reliance on throw-away packaging. It's great to see Assoc. Environment Minister Eugenie Sage's call for retailers and manufacturers to phase out low-value plastics like 4s and 6s, and for systems which prioritise reuse and reduction. What do you do to avoid taking home plastic 3-7's?

To everyone who voted in the Unpackit Awards - you helped make a difference! New World and Pak'n Save are now trialling fully recyclable PET meat-trays for butchery, sooo much better than polystyrene meat-trays which go to the landfill.

Soon, you may be able to put meat trays out on the curb to be recycled. Selected New World and Pak‘n Save stores are trialing an alternative to its usual ...

Great to see councils around NZ calling for a charge on plastic bags to replace free plastic bags at supermarkets and retailers. Just a 5-10c charge would make a massive difference in the number of plastic bags used - so simple and effective!

Local government leaders want a compulsory levy on plastic shopping bags at point of sale.
