Two years since I released Seeking The Light. To celebrate the anniversary, and to say thanks to my followers, I'm making the book available at a discounted price. You won't find it for this price anywhere else.

20 years ago I had a dream about creating a book like this, specific to the Southern Alps.
After 15 years of playing with the idea I set off with my camera and got started on the first climb...
2 years ago on this day I released Seeking The Light.

Yes, it's a book with pretty pictures,
but more than that it's a story of how the mountains and nature are good for our mental health,
and deep within those pages you'll find a story of addiction (to mountains) and all the learnings garnered from working and playing in this environment.

If you haven't already gotten a copy, maybe now's the time. If you have, consider giving it as a gift.

I'll be selling the book at this price until the last copies are gone. This was a one off... now a collectors item.

At the Marlborough Book Festival last year I had the honour of being interviewed by Mike White, a long serving journalist and author. He is a very warm hearted and friendly interviewer and he made this a very memorable book festival experience for me.

The festival asked me to speak at the two local high schools, and then the highlight was to have a live interview on stage with Mike. We had a lot of laughs.

The audio recording has been turned into a podcast, and you can listen here: https://www.podbean.com/ep/pb-jwbrh-15eeec9

The festival is on again in late July and is well worth a visit.

Thanks to Mike, Sonia, Dog Point Vineyard and all the organisers for giving me such a warm welcome.

Seeking The Light was the winner of the prestigious 'Mountain & Adventure Heritage' award at the 2023 New Zealand Mountain Film Festival.

Many thanks to all those who've already purchased a copy of the book.

This book comprises the most significant collection of modern NZ mountaineering photography ever published, and provides a rare and unique view of our Southern Alps from the perspective of a dedicated mountaineer on and amongst our highest mountains.

The early bird Damien Muller on the East Ridge of Lendenfeld Peak.

After waiting out some bad weather we were gifted the most stunning day for an ascent of 'half of Mt Tasman'. Bullet proof ice along the Main Divide made travel slow and treacherous so we turned around just beyond the summit of Lendenfeld.

Patience will get us to the summit of Tasman in the end I'm sure.

A year ago today... still pinching myself that I was able to fulfil this dream, and do it with the ultimate dream team. From the climbers, to the amazing publisher Potton & Burton who allowed me to use my own editor Derek Cheng, and my own designer Highlux Photography.
Thanks to all of you who supported it.

It's launched, get your copy of my new book:
SEEKING THE LIGHT: Climbing All 24 of New Zealand's highest mountains.

Tonight I get the chance to reveal the book I've been working on for the last 3+ years, the seed of which began to germinate about 18 years ago. Needless to say I'm thrilled to see this project come to fruition and I'm grateful for everyone who lent a hand, shared a rope or offered advice on how to write a book.

And now I thank those of you out there generous enough to support me by coming to the launch, purchasing a book, or both. I trust (and hope) that the final copy will not only meet but exceed your expectations.

All books have arrived in the nick of time and if you're waiting for yours they're being despatched as we speak. Fantastic effort from my publisher Potton & Burton getting through all the 'supply chain' issues.
And we're Covid free too... another curveball showed up last week in our household, threatening to derail the launch, but I'm happy to say that it has been expelled. And the show must go on.

If you're in Wānaka, come along to the presentation:

And if you can't make it, get yourself a copy of the book here:

Sometimes we stumble upon the most breathtaking views and also by pure chance, a fleeting combination of clouds and sunset light.

This was my experience recently, when I ventured up to a pass I'd never visited before, in the Cordillera Blanca of Perú.

When I reached the pass my jaw dropped. In the distance, Perú's highest mountains. In the foreground, a couple of lakes I'd never seen before - the Babylonian Laguna Carhuac and Mullaca - one blue, one green. I set up the tent quickly and watched as the light got better and better.

Once all photographic options had been explored I drifted into a deep sleep...

Paso del Zorro, 4980m. Cordillera Blanca, Perú.

Flashback to one year ago on Roys Peak, when the snow kept falling to lake level all weekend. With a clearance forecast we set off in the dark, snow still falling, to reach the top of Roys Peak. None of us really thought it would take as long as it did, and neglected to bring much in the way of food or hydration. But I have to say, this is one of the best one day outings I've ever had within 5km of my house. The light, the backdrop of Glendhu Bay and the Matukituki, the blowing snow; everything lined up around my supermodels for the perfect shot.

This is Blake Silvester and Alex Hillary enjoying the last few metres to the summit, before we began our descent down the eastern side right through the Manuka bush!

I'm proud to see this shot become the signature image at this years New Zealand Mountain Film Festival held annually in Wānaka for the last 21 years. It defines the types of adventures we can have right here in our (New Zealand) backyard.

I'll be speaking at the festival on 26th June. Grab your tickets here: https://mountainfilm.nz/sessions/book-2/
