Fourteen-year-old Miles Baker is targeting success in the rookie class in his first season in the Bridgestone GR86 Championship.

The Hamilton driver will be the youngest in the field when he takes to the track in his Mackenzie Motorsport-run Toyota GR86 at the championship’s first round next month.

Baker recently secured the 2026 Tony Quinn Foundation GR86 Shootout at Hampton Downs, earning a $54,000 support package towards his upcoming campaign in the championship.

Christchurch racer Mac Templeton will return to the Bridgestone GR86 Championship this coming season and is hoping to make a big step towards a career in Supercars.

Last season, Mac’s rookie year, he was team mate to champion Chris White at Neale Motorsport, and he became increasingly competitive as the championship season progressed. He says he learned a lot.

“Last season was all about learning actually,” said the amiable 19-year-old. “I had a great team in Neale Motorsport with lots of experience and smarts behind me, helping me to develop my skills each session.

AJ Foyt Racing development driver Aidan Schuh will compete in the 2027 Castrol Toyota Formula Regional Oceania Trophy series in New Zealand this January.

The four-round championship begins at Hampton Downs Motorsport Park and concludes with the 71st NAPA New Zealand Grand Prix at Highlands Motorsports Park.

Schuh, 23, is racing in the Formula Regional Americas Championship this season with Crosslink Motorsports, which partnered with AJ Foyt Racing earlier this year as part of the team’s driver development program which also includes the INDY NXT by Firestone series.

Exciting single seater prospect Reza Seewooruthun will prepare for a season in FIA F3 by contesting the 2027 Castrol Toyota Formula Regional Oceania Trophy with Rodin Motorsport.

A potential championship contender with Rodin, the 20-year-old from Poole in Dorset in the UK is aiming to fight for the championship and be consistently at the front. Longer term, he has his sights firmly set on succeeding in every pathway single seater series all the way up to Formula One.

The British Racing Drivers Club Rising Stars programme recognised him as one of its 2024 selections – a programme that over the years has selected drivers like Lewis Hamilton – and since then, Seewooruthun has rapidly emerged as one of the UK’s most exciting young racing talents.

Experienced Toyota 86 racer Ajay Giddy is all in for a shot at the Bridgestone GR86 Championship title this coming season – but he knows it’s going to be tough.

Giddy will still be one of the youngest in the championship at 15 and over the course of two full seasons in the Championship as taken podium finishes and come close to race wins. He’s won races in the grassroots Toyota 86 Trophy Series and is one of the most promising young drivers in the NZ racing scene currently.

That experience - along with strong performances in other series – suggests he will be a major title challenger this coming season. But can he do it?

German Arjen Kräling – a race winner in the Spanish-based Formula 4 Winter Series this year – is the latest confirmation in a packed international field of talent lining up for the 2027 Castrol Toyota Formula Regional Oceania Trophy in New Zealand.

Kräling – 16 – will join TJ Speed Motorsports for the four-round championship which concludes with the 71st New Zealand Grand Prix.

A two-year karter at international level, the young German from Winterberg started racing at 12 after three years of professional ski racing in Austria. He was runner-up in the ADAC Kart Masters Mini 60 in 2022, 11th in 2023 and eighth in 2024 at the karting world championships. He was also ranked eighth overall in the FIA’s world kart ranking for the OK Junior class in 2024.

Wanaka racer Marcel Bartley is confirmed for a full season in the Bridgestone GR86 Championship with Action Motorsport.

Marcel - 22- was an impressive performer in the recent Toyota 86 Trophy Series over the winter months for the older model car – improving round by round and securing his first podium during the final weekend of the series at Manfeild.

That impressive ability to learn and turn knowledge into track performance quickly is something he is aiming to take into the main championship when the Repco NextGen NZ Motorsport Championship series gets underway at the Taupo International Motorsport Park with the PTS Logistics season opener.
