Watching the sunset over the Tasman from a deserted stretch of Heaphy Beach hits different.

The light doesn’t just fade, it shifts. Gold turns to copper, copper to deep violet, and the river mouth catches the last fire of the day, a final glimmering dance before its lost to the expansive ocean. That low, steady roar of the waves crashing, it feels less like background noise and more like a reminder of how small you are out there.

Not another soul for miles. No footprints but your own. Just driftwood, heavy shadows stretching long across the sand, and that endless horizon swallowing the sun whole.

There’s something about New Zealand, the South Island in particular, that strips things back. No distractions. No rush. Just space, physical and mental. Standing there, watching the last light burn out over the Tasman, it’s hard to put words to it.

It’s quiet… but it’s loud in your chest at the same time.

Morning at Saxon Hut feels like the world before people. Golden light on the tussock, boots damp with dew, birds stirring in the grass. Just the quiet hum of the earth waking and the long Heaphy Track stretching ahead. Some places don’t ask anything from you, they just remind you nothing really matters.

There are endless creeks and streams running through and around the It's hard not to stop and dip your toes in each and every one. - then again with an average of 15KM per day to cover, there's no time to stop at them all!!
Oh, did I mention the waters 🥶 ICE COLD!

The last 3 months have been a whirlwind of travel, hikes and unbelievable experiences with close friends and family.

Nice location for a little bando explore while sampling mid- wines in LOVELY Napier.

We went to a stuffy Winery in Napier. "The oldest" and most up-tight of the vineyards. Rented and rode a bike to get there, chose a flight or basic wines and was denied a 2nd taste "it's against our liquor license"
So I decided to wander.
Just beyond the stately mansion and well manicured court yard were a couple of old buildings in the bush- THAT HAPPEN TO BE BANDO -AND- COMPLETELY OEPN!
This wine tasting just got interesting.
I took a quick self tour before we moved on.
