May 11th brought a massive G5 solar storm, and with it, one of the most spectacular displays of the Aurora Australis that New Zealand has seen in decades. I was privileged to be able to witness this from the picturesque Pouakai Tarn, with Mount Taranaki in the mid-foreground.

Believe it or not, this was captured in the darkness well after sunset. The waves of the southern lights were so powerful it nearly drowned out the stars in this long exposure image. What a sight!

Had the privilege of driving up the Remarkables and seeing the Ben Cruachan peak in this dramatic setting some time ago. The sunlight piercing through the clouds provided a striking contrast to the shadowed areas of the rocky mountainside.

A few months ago on a stormy night, I stepped outside as the thunder rolled in the distance. I set my camera up, pointing towards the twinkling lights of the Port of Tauranga, with the hope of capturing an elusive lightning strike over Mount Maunganui. Patience rewarded me with an incredible photo of the Mount highlighted against a purple sky, as a lightning bolt broke out of the clouds behind Motiti Island. To date one of my favourite captures ever!

Talk about a striking location! Spent some quality time next to the Pouakai Tarn on the ranges of Mount Taranaki, photographing the breathtaking night sky over the still water.

What makes this photo unique is that it was taken during a lunar eclipse... While everyone else was shooting the moon, I took advantage of the small window of near-complete darkness to capture this bucket-shot!

Climbed onto the Pouakai Ranges to a beautiful sunset. The weather patterns around Mount Taranaki are highly unpredictable - most of the time it's obscured by clouds, but on the odd occasion after making the effort to climb, you hit the jackpot!

Few places inspire the same level of awe as the drive to Mount Cook, in the South Island of New Zealand. You feel incredibly small as you pass between the majestic mountains. A photo will never do it justice, but this panorama might come close!

Had a remarkable sunset from the Remarkables Lookout!

Talk about the most beautiful view you'll ever see... Stretching all the way to the horizon, you're surrounded by snow-capped mountain peaks, valleys, and directly below you, Lake Wakatipu. If you've never been here, I can highly recommend it. Be sure to take appropriate safety gear, as weather conditions can change quickly on the mountains.
