Surf’s been fun when it’s tuned up.
Sunrise and sunset sessions, barrels, glassy walls, and strong offshores throwing up rainbows. Typical spring weather in New Zealand this October, but when the swells arrived there’s been some fun surf. Water’s slowly getting warmer, air temperature is certainly getting warmer, what will El Niño bring?

Painful landing at the end. Dawn or sunset surfer?

Some surfers prefer sunrise surf, with glassy water and the first light. Others would rather surf in the evening, when the golden hour sun lights up the waves. Same ocean, a completely different feel.

For drone footage I prefer the morning light, but honestly I don’t mind when, as long as I get wet.

Shot on the DJI Mavic 4 Pro at both ends of the day. Which do you prefer, sunrise or sunset?

Mind surf the rest. The guy was being too kind. Short-lived swell, but the waves were pumping, and the water’s definitely getting warmer. Summer’s on its way 🤙
