Milford Sound, Fiordland National Park

I think we finally have an image of the Sound that we are happy with! πŸ˜„

We have been wanting to combine these amazing mossy rocks with the famous low tide reflections and colourful high cloud since first visiting Milford 2 years ago! To finally get the conditions we needed and get the composition we had been planning for so long was an awesome feeling. Having said that, our favourite part of this image is Stirling falls being dwarfed by the surrounding peaks in the distance! When you consider the falls are 151 metres high you start to get a good idea of the scale of this incredible place! 😳

We really want to improve the overall quality and style of our images and get ourselves into more interesting places to try and get something new β›°πŸ€“. We are hoping that 2018 will be a year of progress for us, we are always feel happier and enjoy ourselves more if we are moving forward! πŸ˜„ This shot was taken way back in October in Skippers canyon near Queenstown. We are so pumped for astro season starting again that we are finding it hard to think about anything else and considering how hot it has been lately, the thought of being out in the cold is pretty appealing! 😎

Welcome to Riffelsee! πŸ˜„

The views of the Matterhorn from this stunning alpine lake are the most famous you will find in this area! The trip to the lake is an adventure in itself, especially when you are planning to shoot some astro! It all starts with a train that winds its way up the range. We jumped off at Rotenboden and then it’s a short walk to the lake itself where we took advantage of a break in the clouds to capture a shot we have been dreaming of getting!

The adventure really starts when you have to get down. The train has brought you up but it can’t take you down and you are now 2,757m above sea level and facing a 4-5 hour hike down the mountain in the dark on a trail you have never walked before! To top it off you have to leave for the airport at 5.a.m and you are starting your walk after midnight! πŸ˜‚ Even though we were totally exhausted from days of shooting and little to no sleep we wouldn’t have it any other way! We want to thank Lufthansa for taking us on such an incredible journey and all of you for following a long! 😊

Night time at the Church of the Good Shepherd!
While on our Tekapo Road trip a couple of months back we would stop by the Church each night to shoot the lupins under the stars. Catching the light from town gave the clouds the same incredible colours you get at sunrise or sunset, but with the added bonus of star light breaking through. The soft lights from the main street also washed over the tallest of the lupins which really brought them to life. This was one of those rare occasions where a little light pollution actually added to the image! πŸ˜„

We have also heard that it is going to get a lot harder to get shots like this in future as they have introduced a permit system which they will use going forward. Luckily we managed to spend a few nights there before it all changed! 😁

Lake Wakatipu!

After the incredible sunset we had yesterday afternoon here in Queenstown, which we didn’t really get to shoot 😭

We thought we would share another shot from that epic lenticular display at the end of last year! Hoping we get to see a lot more light shows like this in 2018!

The Matterhorn over Zermatt! β›°

This epic little alpine village has a way of life that most people would love. There are no cars, wood cabins, delicious food and some cool bars and shops πŸ˜„πŸ‘Œ! It also has some of the best views of the alps that you could hope for. Almost everywhere in town you can look out and see the Matterhorn towering above you. After exploring for a while we found a street that led us to this stunning view of the entire village and the mighty Matterhorn! 😎 Thanks to Lufthansa for getting us here!

To kick off 2018 we can finally show you guys some of our favourite shots from our trip with Lufthansa airlines πŸ˜„

The Matterhorn in the Alps would have to be one of the most famous mountains on the planet! Standing at 4,478 meters high it casts an imposing figure over the beautiful alpine village of Zermatt. As a couple of people who have grown to love the mountains, standing beneath the Matterhorn and getting to photograph it was something that we had dreamed of doing.

It was definitely a surreal feeling to be at this famous viewpoint in the middle of town, watching the early morning rays beginning to wash over this mighty peak! πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘Œ

Waipapa point lighthouse!

Two weeks ago today we set off on an epic road trip across Southland! We visited all the classic spots like this absolute gem and then down to Stewart Island and back again!

We have visited Southland many times in the past and it is always awesome! We were hoping to get some good light for sunset at the light house and it didn't disappoint!

We were having to dodge a few sea lions while running around trying to find a nice to show off the Lighthouse and the colourful high cloud behind it! We were pretty happy when we came away with this!

Another day another Lupin! πŸ˜„

This was taken on our last trip to Lake Tekapo - we have been hearing some news that the church might be getting a barricade put up around it to protect it from the constant stream of tourists (us included)! 😲 Has anybody heard anything more about this? πŸ€”

Also, some people have been saying that the DOC have been through and torn out most of the lupins in this area, so you might want to double check before travelling there to shoot! Sounds like we were lucky to get in there and get some shots before all of this went down!

Had to use 4 brighter exposures for the foreground to get everything nice and sharp and exposed properly!

Another epic sunset from Queenstown last week!

Once we saw these huge lenticular clouds over Cecil peak along with some high cloud and a nice gap on the horizon, we knew that sunset was going to be one to remember and it didn’t disappoint!

Luckily for us the wind was also quite strong so the lake was producing some nice waves that were crashing over the rocks and creating a little bit of spray. We shot over 200 frames and ended up with this one wave that we were pretty happy with.

This is the time of year when sunsets are at their best in Queenstown and we have had some really dramatic displays already, hopefully they keep on coming! 😎✌️
