“RESPLENDENT”

Strength is not found in growing straight. It is found in enduring storms, bending without breaking, and still reaching for the light.

Well it sounds nice and it’s easy to read, but hard to accept and apply into my life

This tree reminds me of Gravity by John Mayer — a song about the invisible forces that pull us down: fear, doubt, temptation, and everything that takes us away from who we’re meant to be.

Yet the words remain:

“Keep me where the light is.”

Gravity keeps the tree rooted, but it never stops reaching upward. It bends, twists, and adapts — not because life is easy, but because it knows where it needs to grow.

Maybe we are the same.

We cannot always choose the weight we carry, but we can choose the direction we grow.

The scars, the storms, and the broken branches are not signs of failure. They are proof that we endured.

Like trees, we are made to seek the light — hope, purpose, truth, and love.

The lesson this tree offers is simple:

We don’t have to be perfect for the light to reach us.

We only have to keep growing toward it and become someone through whom the light can still shine

Winter has finally arrived in Queenstown (nothing like it used to be) which means it’s another year for me to try and chase the perfect shot of Coronet Peak Ski Area when the night ski is on… Few years ago I had some a close call but it was out of focus and last year it was SLIGHTLY out of focus hahah .. so hopefully this year it will SLIGHTLY LESS out of focus … Coronet Peak Ski Area

“AELIA”

“Piopiotahi”, also famously known as Milford Sound, is often considered the 8th Wonder of the World. Growing up, I always had a little giggle to myself whenever I tried to say Piopiotahi, and I assumed it probably meant something related to a fiord or a sound.

Well, I was wrong.

The name actually comes from a Māori story about a lone piopio bird. After the death of Māui—the legendary explorer and trickster who was said to have slowed the sun and fished up islands from the sea—a single piopio flew to this place in mourning. That bird, and its grief, became part of the identity of this remarkable landscape, giving it the name Piopiotahi — “one piopio.”

Standing here today, surrounded by towering cliffs, waterfalls, and mist-covered peaks, it’s amazing to think that a name I once stumbled over as a kid carries such a beautiful story. Sometimes the places we admire most have stories hidden in plain sight, waiting for us to finally learn them, a reflection from the past.

This image was taken a few years ago and I’m glad I tumbled upon it as it has sparked in me a desire I had lost for adventures. “KINDRED”

I had the pleasure of photographing a very cute couple the other day.

They arrived looking happy enough, and judging by their confidence around the camera, this definitely wasn’t their first photoshoot. I figured it would be easy.

I was wrong.

About two minutes in, something happened.

Now, I can’t say for certain, but I’m fairly convinced the guy made a comment about her hair.

A bold strategy.

Especially considering he had some of the most impressive hair I’ve ever seen. Honestly, I spent most of the session trying to work out who his barber was. Perfect volume. Perfect shape. Not a feather out of place.

She did not appear to share my admiration.

Without a word, she dipped beneath the surface, leaving him floating there with nothing but his thoughts and his excellent hair.

While she was away, I figured I might as well make the most of the situation and grabbed a portrait of him. It seemed only fair. Hair like that deserves documentation.

A few minutes later she returned, considerably less annoyed, and the two of them quietly drifted back together as if the whole incident had never happened.

No apology. No discussion. Just a mutual agreement to move on.

Honestly, they handled it better than most humans.

Anyway, here’s the only photo where both grebes agreed to be in the same frame, and the portrait I took while she was off remodeling emotionally ( with some behind the scenes )

For anyone wondering they are the Australasian crested Grebe aka kāmana or pūteketeke in Maori, the bird of the century, thanks to John Oliver.
