A 92nd minute winning goal from Adam Supyk, sees Central League champions overcome Northern League winners in thrilling contest yesterday at Wakefield Park.

Five in a row Central League winners Wellington Olympic AFC (14 W, 3 D, 1 L) did. battle with Northern League winners Western Springs (13W, 3D, 6L) yesterday in Round Two of the 2025 National League competition.

Both sides having come off round one victories, Olympic beat Phoenix Reserves 5-3 at Fraser Park. Whilst, Springs defeated Western Suburbs 3-0 at Seddon Fields.

After an end to end opening half an hour, moments after Olympic had a goal ruled out for an alleged foul on Oscar Mason. Springs countered down the left wing, Oscar Browne drove to the top of the box before sliding a pass off to McLeod who finished inside the near post of Scott Basalaj giving the visitors a 1-0 lead.

A 85th goal in his 139th Wellington Olympic appearance from Jack-Henry Sinclair sent the game into level at halftime.

Basalaj and Mason were called into action multiple times throughout the second half, Oscar rushing off his line to save an early strike from Manuel. Scott pulling off an acrobatic save to deny a strike from distance by Casper McGavin.

Coming on in the 84th minute to replace Tiahn Manuel, Wellington Olympic's newest debutant Luke Stoupe won a 92nd minute corner that was swung into the box by Johnny Reynolds and headed back across by fellow substitute Ben Mata.

Oscar Mason punched the header clear to the top of the box where Adam Supyk fired a shot into Isa Prins who was on the floor. The rebound fell perfectly to Stoupe who headed the ball to Supyk who had another shot that rolled into the bottom sparking wild scenes of celebrations among the Olympic supporters up on the bank as the Greeks saw out the remaining minutes of added time making it two wins from two to begin National League.

Well Done Scots College Football Club. 2025 NZSS Football Premier Boys Champions.

Having already lifted the New Zealand Secondary Schools Futsal Title in a 3-1 win over St Peter's College (Auckland) at Ākau Tangi Sports Centre back in March. Followed that up by appearing in their first College Sport Wellington Trevor Rigby Cup Final since 2021 and lifting their first title since they beat St Pats Silverstream 3-2 in 2020.

Scots then turned their attention to Nationals where they were arguably potted in the Group of Death (Pool H). Alongside 2024 defending champions Sacred Heart College (Auckland), St Peter's (Cambridge) and Christchurch champions St Thomas of Canterbury.

Scots started Nationals with a 1-0 win over St Thomas' thanks to a Miles Woodhall free kick, before going down 2-0 to St Peter's on Monday afternoon. Leaving Scots sitting third in their pool on goal difference, they had no other option but to beat Sacred Heart on Tuesday morning if they wanted to quality for Top 16.

Yet again Miles Woodhall scored the games only goal, as Scots booked themselves a Round of 16 showdown with another St Peter's this time from Auckland.

A goal in each half from Owen Egan helped Scots defeat the 2023 runners up and advance to the Quarterfinals where a meeting with Traditional rivals Palmerston North Boys' awaited.

One goal would again prove the difference maker for Scots, from their captain Edward Thompson spoiled Palmy Boys quest for a semi final appearance at their home tournament.

Scots fell at the semi final stage at the 2022 tournament being beaten 1-0 by HIBS, they would go onto claim a Bronze Medal that year but goals from Thompson and Jacob Kleinsmith on Thursday afternoon set Scots on a quest for Gold Medal showdown with St. Kentigern College.

Owen Egan put Scots up 1-0 early and awoke St. Kents who peppered the Scots goal for the remainder of the first half with goalkeeper Yaman Gider needing to pull off four top class saves to keep the Wellingtonians in front.

Fittingly how he scored Scots' first two goals of the tournament, Miles would score his sides final two as well. Scoring two goals towards the back end of the second half setting the Scots fans that had traveled up by bus in the morning wild as they stormed the pitch upon the final whistle as Scots brought back the Premier National Title to Wellington for the first time since Rongotai College in 1989.

First of all, Well Done to both Whangarei Boys High School (WBHS) and Hamilton Boys' High School 1st XI's on winning the Bowl Trophy and 3rd versus 4th place playoff matches this morning on the final day of 2025 NZSS Football Premier Boys Nationals at Massey University in Palmerston North.

Three goals from Harley Hill, as well as one from Liam West helped Hamilton Boys' defeat Auckland champions for three year's running Westlake Boys High School.

Hamilton had topped their group earlier in the week finishing with two wins (MAGS 1-0 and Cashmere 5-1) and a defeat to St Pats Wellington (4-2). Before beating Auckland Grammar (4-2 Pens), Nelson College 2-1 in Round of 16 and Quarterfinal matches before being pipped at the semi final stage by Scots College.

Whangarei Boys meanwhile, had a unbeaten Monday when they beat Paraparaumu College (4-0) and held recent powerhouse St Peter's College (Auckland) to a 1-1 draw. Before being resigned to the Bottom 16 when they suffered a 3-1 defeat to Tauranga Boys College.

From there though, Whangarei Boys' went perfect on their run towards the Bowl Trophy. Claiming victories over Christchurch champions St Thomas (3-2), Wellington College (2-0), Napier Boys' (5-1) and today despite conceding the first goal they scored five unawnsered to beat Macleans College 5-1 and finish 17th overall at 2025 nationals a much better improvement on the 24th place they ended up with at Nats this time last year.

And then there were eight.......

This afternoon brought about Knockout Football at the NZSS Football 2025 Premier Boys Football Nationals held at Massey University in Palmerston North.

They began at 1 PM, with tournament hosts Palmerston North Boys' High School beating Selwyn College 2-0. On the pitch next door St Kentigern College avenged a 2022 national quarterfinal defeat on penalties to runners up that year Hutt International Boys School (HIBS). Finn Murphy scored twice in quick succession to advance St Kent's to the Top Eight.

Penalties were required in two of the contests, firstly after a 1-1 draw between Nelson College and Howick College it was the South Islanders who held there nerve best and won the shootout 4-2 on pens.

The other game decided by five kicks each from twelve yards, saw Hamilton Boys' High School go a goal down early to Auckland Grammar School. Before Hamilton Boys' scored three unawnsered goals to lead 3-1 with no more than quarter of an hour to play.

Grammar never gave up however, and scored two cracking goals to tie the game up and force a penalty shootout that would unfortunately be their undoing. As Hamilton Goalkeeper Kobe Taylor saved the first two Auckland penalties whilst, Boys High went perfect from the spot to win the shootout 4-2.

A repeat of the 2025 NZSS Futsal final saw Scots College Football Club take on St Peter's College (Auckland) where a double from Owen Egan booked Scots a quarterfinal showdown with traditional opponents PNBHS.

Cashmere High School who came from a goal down against MAGS in the morning to win 2-1 and qualify for top sixteen, won a all South Island battle as they beat Shirley Boys 1-0.

2023 winners Westlake Boys' looked untroubled in their 2-0 win over St Paul's Collegiate with goals coming from Charlie Taylor and Billy Higgins.

Similar to Cashmere, Tauranga this morning survived the heavy challenge of Whangarei Boys High School in their final pool game. Emerging 3-1 winners to book a quarterfinal showdown against St Peter's (Cambridge).

Where after a scoreless first half, Cole Rayner who scored twice in Tauranga's earlier game put the 2024 beaten finalists ahead 1-0 from the penalty spot before Ben Petrik killed the game off in the 59th minute and handed St Peter's their first defeat of Nationals 2025 after having an unbeaten grading campaign.

2025 Premier Boys Nationals Quarterfinals:

Wednesday 27th of August: All Games K.O. at 11 AM
Hamilton Boys High School vs Nelson College
Tauranga Boys College vs Saint Kentigern College
Palmerston North Boys High School vs Scots College
Cashmere High School vs Westlake Boys High School

Final Chatham Cup game of the Central Region saw Napier City Rovers Football Club host Wellington Phoenix Reserves at Bluewater Stadium

Napier were out to avenge a 2-0 defeat they suffered in Round Three at Fraser Park Artificial to Nix Reserves where Daniel Makowem and Gabriel Sloane-Rodrigues weere the scorers.

A third goal of the season from Luke Flowerdew gave the visitors a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute. However, goals in the 24th and 42nd minute, both to Jordan Annear gave last year's quarterfinalists a 2-1 halftime lead.

Phoenix Reserves came out of the sheds firing and tested the Napier defense and Harry Townsend in goal but were unable to level the scores.

Napier had the chance to put the game to bed midway through the second half when referee Chris Bennett awarded the homeside a penalty against Ryan Lee for handball.

Harry Mason stepped up to take the penalty and aimed for the bottom left. However, Phoenix Goalkeeper Eamonn McCarron got down and saved it, as well as the follow-up shot from close range also.

Phoenix were twice denied by the woodwork when both Luke Mitchell and Lachie Candy struck the crossbar with a curling shot and a freekick from distance.

Sam Lack's 6th goal of the season put the game to bed in the 69th minute and booked Napier a spot in the next round as they seek to go better than the Quarterfinal stage they made it to in 2024.

Game of the season contender, not the result North Wellington were hoping for as gap extends between them and rest of the pack

9th vs 10th saw Upper Hutt host North Wellington in the opening fixture in Round Nine of the Central League with Upper Hutt not having scored a goal in any of there last two outings defeats to Olympic (1-0) and Western Suburbs (5-0) whilst North Wellington it seemed had put their big defeats beyond them rescuing a late point off Karori in a 2-2 draw and taking second place Phoenix Reserves to the 99th minute in a 3-2 defeat.

After surviving an early Upper Hutt onslaught, North Wellington started to move the ball round well and tested Upper Hutt goalkeeper Shaun Marshall on a couple of occasions. When a strike from distance from North Wellington debutant Athan Thompson was tipped over the bar by Marshall.

After having one ruled out for offside there would be no denying Mort on the eve of halftime, as a corner swung into the near post where it took a deflection off an Upper Hutt and despite looking as if it was going to go in anyway Alex Mort headed in from right on the line giving North Wellington a 1-0 halftime lead.

Upper Hutt equalized almost right out of the sheds when a long throw into the box from Hansen spat out and was hit by Donal Gahan from just outside the six yard box into the back of the net past Brooklyn Browne making the score 1-1.

An element of fortune gave Darren Juru his second goal in as many weeks, as a cross into the box from Tom Speers looked to be cleared by Sam Rausch only for it to be blocked by Juru and loop up over the top of Marshall and into the back of the home sides net for a 2-1 North Wellington lead.

Hanen’s third goal of the season so far, brought Upper Hutt level in the 66th minute when Lucas headed in a cross from former NW player Mick Reid to tie the game back up. The 78th minute saw Upper Hutt lead for the first time when Harry Lamont threaded a pass through the legs of Dion Keetley that Ethan Barbier met and chipped a shot over Browne from close range for a 3-2 Upper Hutt lead.

Mort had a bit more work to do for his second goal to this time level things up for North’s, receiving a pass from Juru over the head of three Upper Hutt players. Alex chested it down on the six yard box before finishing into the bottom left corner and setting off to destroy his second corner flag of the afternoon much to the ire of referee Caleb Marsh.

Of all things, an own goal would turn out to be the difference maker on the scoreboard between Upper Hutt and North Wellington yesterday. Following a foul from substitute Juyong Kim on Lamont, Upper Hutt were awarded a free kick against the touchline that Sam Twigg stepped up and swung into the box where it was met by Hansen.

Lucas proceed to throw a leg out at Twigg’s free kick, and made good contact on the ball that seemed to be heading straight into the at Browne only for it to take a deflection of the head of NW Captain Josh Zatorski and land in the back of the net for a 4-3 Upper Hutt lead that they would defend for the final remaining minutes to pick up their second Central League win of the season.

Upper Hutt 4 (Lucas Hansen, Donal Gahan, Ethan Barbier and Own Goal) beat North Wellington 3 (Alex Mort 2 and Darren Juru)

St Pats Wellington win back Adam George and Dennis Rogers Cup with 2-1 Win over Wellington College 1st XI Football today at St Pat's Town Artificial.

Having begun 2025 Premier Grading with Three Wins on the trot over St Pats Silverstream (3-1), Onslow College (7-3) and Tawa College (6-1) St Pats Wellington today met Wellington College in their yearly football traditional for the Adam George & Denis Rogers Cup currently held by WC following a 4-2 victory in this fixture last year.

St Pats Wellington took a deserved 1-0 lead early midway through the first half when a free kick from distance was nestled just inside the right hand post from distance by Charlie Hale past the diving effort of Wellington College goalkeeper Freddie Lets.

After a double change from Stu Widdowson, defending Trevor Rigby Cup Champions Wellington College finally seemed to show up for today's contest and after a break for St Pats Wellington Goalkeeper Victor Albett to receive medical attention from his coach Sam Mitrakas.

Thomas Nischalke having already scored two hatricks in 2025 against Hutt Valley High School and Rathkeale College scored a cracking goal from inside the box to send the game into halftime level at 1-1.

When a cross into the box seemed to be comfortable under the control of Xavier Gazzard-Steele but he was pressed by Wellington College and the ball fell to Nischalke who had his shot saved by Albett but the rebound fell straight to Thomas who curled a shot into the top left corner of a empty net to tie the game at 1-1.

Charlie was a matter of inches away from putting St Pat's back ahead just after the halftime break when he tested Letts from distance with Freddie needing to tip one shot over the bar whilst the second just skimmed the bar by millimetres.

Wellington College Football went close a couple of times themselves hitting St Pat's on the break and hitting a curling shot that went just the post on more than once occasion.

An Own Goal proved the difference maker however, as consecutive corners saw St Pats Wellington take the lead back. When a corner was swung into the back post seemed to be under the control of Letts but as he came to ground he lost control of the ball and a goalmouth scramble ensued with the ball ending up in the back of the WC goal with it being adjudged by referee Nigel Piper to have been an Own Goal that turned out to be the winner for the homeside as they continue their unbeaten start to 2025.

Both sides are back in action Friday Night, St Pats Wellington at home taking on 2024 runners up Hutt International Boys School (HIBS). meanwhile, WC look to bounce back from a defeat last Friday to Paraparaumu College (2-0) as they take on Rongotai College at 7.45 PM.

Western Suburbs back to their very best putting Six past a poor Karori on Saturday at Endeavour Park

After a stop, start first ten minutes with both sides settling into today's opening. Men's Central League Round Five fixture at Endeavour Park between Western Suburbs and Waterside Karori with the homeside treating the inform Lukas Halikias as a punching bag of sorts getting stuck into his early doors

Cameron Mackenzie opened the scoring in the 14th minute, after the ball bounced around in the box for what felt like an age it fell to Mackenzie free at the back post who fired a shot past Josh Brown to make it 1-0 Wests.

Two minutes later, Alex Andersson headed in a cross from Seb Barton-Ginger to double the homesides lead.

Waterside Karori finally showed up and a cracker of a save from Suburbs goalkeeper Quillan Roberts kept out a cracking strike from Jack Eccles from quite a way out

Ryan Harrison scored his second goal in as many weeks and really was a one man band for Wharfies all game today and grabbed one back for Karori in the 28th minute when he pulled away from Sebastian Sanchez and finished past Roberts for 2-1.

Four minutes later, an Alex Andersson penalty extended Wests lead back out to two before Anderson was involved in another goal that gave Suburbs a three goal halftime advantage.

Wests counter attacked led by Andersson drove through the middle of the park before firing shot at Brown, who parried it right to the feet of Barton-Ginger who smashed a shot into the back of the net for a 4-1 advantage.

Goals in the 54th and 60th minute to Barton-Ginger and Kaelin Nguyen had Western Suburbs 6-1 in front before a whole host of changes evened the game out.

Roberts was called into action twice more to keep out a Harrison free kick from just inside halfway and a low drive from just inside the box.

Despite Karori starting to have a lot of the ball in the final twenty minutes after Western Suburbs had emptied the bench, Roberts had one of his quietest days in Western Suburbs Goal rarely troubled apart from those two strikes from distance from Harrison and Eccles respectively.

Western Suburbs are back at Endeavour Park next Saturday facing last placed North Wellington at 12.30 PM, whilst Waterside Karori host Napier City Rovers at Karori Park #2 at 12 PM.

Western Suburbs 6 (Alex Andersson 2, Seb Barton-Ginger 2, Kaelin Nguyen and Cameron Mackenzie) beat Waterside Karori 1 (Ryan Harrison)
