This time of year in the Rockies just can't be beat when the autumn colours are on full display. 🍂

With the weather being unpredictable in the mountainous landscape, it's always a bit of a gamble whether or not the autumn leaves will have already fallen or the snow has begun to drop. Luckily on this trip, the colours were popping and the snow had just grazed the mountaintops adding some beautiful contrast to the photos!

The Hole in the Rock - Northlands iconic island 🏝️

Having been living in New Zealand for nearly a year now, this iconic landmark continually comes up in tourism based conversation.

I wasn't sure how close I'd get during my Cape Brett hike but it turns out I'd be getting a lot closer than expected. 📸

Cape Brett Lighthouse - A beacon into the Pacific Ocean 🌊

The Cape Brett Track had been on my list of hikes before even venturing to New Zealand. With a roughly 34km in and out style hike, and nearly 2,400m of elevation gain throughout, it's not the simplest of day hikes. That's why I chose to spend the night out at the cape in one of the many New Zealand DOC (Department of Conservation) huts in order to fully enjoy the atmosphere.

The weather was optimal on both days with mild wind and sunshine in and out of overcast skies. Unfortunately, the skies turned cloudy at night and wasn't able to take advantage of a starry night.

I've begun collecting a few hikes filmed for YouTube over the last little while and this one is surely at the top of the priority list! Keep an eye out for this one to drop within the next week or so. 🇳🇿

Japanese architecture shining through in every direction ✨

For such a long time, I thought I may never have the opportunity to revisit Japan and with so many other countries on the list to visit, it wasn't out of the realm of possibility.

When this opportunity presented itself, I knew how much I wanted to embrace the cultural side and the history that comes with it.

13 years ago, little Chase would have just said "Cool" and move on but this time around was different. Learning the historical significance of Kochi Castle, Dogo Onsen and various other landmarks had a strong appeal. 🇯🇵 |

Ashizuri-Uwakai National Park 🌲

This location was a complete surprise for us as we walked through these mossy paths with incredible light patterns.

After checking out this national park, we got to have a hands on experience with subarashi fish shaving and seeing where it all takes place in Tosashimizu before a visit to Kashiwajima Beach to see some dolphins! 🐬

Relaxing ride along the Shimanto Blue 🚲

The third day started off with a scenic train ride to what felt like the middle of nowhere and from there we began our 18km cycle alongside the Shimanto River.

Getting to pedal two wheels anytime is a win in my books but getting to do it with a view like this is even better!

Along the route, we stopped off at this charming cafe called Ochakuri which had one of the best views of any cafe I've been too before taking some shots of Mark Harrison doing what he does best.

During the ride back to drop the bikes off, we had an unexpected but very interesting stop at an artisan specializing in a traditional way of knife making. We got to witness a step by step process of how they have been formed for well over a hundred years. 🔪

Would be an awesome river to take a floaty down and just let the sun melt you away. 🫠 |

Nakatsu Gorge to Urya Falls 🌲💧

On the second day, we headed away from the city and off into nature. Getting to watch the Japanese countryside pass by as we made our way into the mountainside was truly beautiful.

This day saw us stretching our legs more than any other as we hiked through the gorge to it's wonderful waterfall at the end.

Along the path, we passed the seven gods believed to protect the gorge and bring blessings such as health, prosperity, longevity, and good fortune. ✨

Our little bento boxes for lunch made up the perfect break and naturally with a setting such as this, we took full advantage of cooling off in the heat. |

The island of Shikoku, Japan 🇯🇵

I wasn't sure where to start when it came to posting photos from the recent trip to Japan with Mark Harrison so I decided to take it literally day by day.

Every day of our trip was packed from start to finish which meant we got to see a lot, taste a lot and inevitably drive a lot. That also meant we were taking a ton of photos! 📸

Shikoku island, which is the smallest of the four main islands of Japan wasn't on my radar but now I know just how underrated it really is.

Our first day after our flight from Tokyo to Kochi consisted of a visit to Katsurahama Beach, followed by a delicious Bonito tasting at Katsuo-Bune where we even seared it ourselves before eating. 🍽️ |

Kodak Moments from 25'/26' 📸

When I first started travelling semi-nomadically back in 2013, I bought myself a disposable Kodak camera to capture unique and perhaps random moments.

That consisted throughout my travels for years but then came a period where I didn't have one in my bag. When I decided to move to Germany at the end of 2024 for my last Working Holiday Visa in Europe, I bought myself a disposable once again to capture that iconic look they are known for.

Fast forward to now, and it's all come full circle as I find myself heading back to Japan, the destination of my first Working Holiday Visa. I've learned a lot since then and excited to experience the island of Shikoku for the first time!

It's time for a little update on where I am at and what I've been up to lately. ☀️

Since moving from the South Island of New Zealand to the far north of the North Island, I've kept myself busy in so many different ways. My health, both physically and mentally has never felt as good as it has lately and the transition couldn't have been smoother. 😌

I'm currently working as a member of the incredible Concierge team with a secondary role of Staff Accommodation Warden at the beautiful 𝗧𝗲 𝗔𝗿𝗮𝗶 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗸𝘀 𝗚𝗼𝗹𝗳 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘁. We strive to deliver the best experience to everyone who visits and with 3 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥𝘴 𝘛𝘰𝘱 100 𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘴, the courses speak for themselves! ⛳️

While here, I've picked up the sport of golf a bit, bought a car, found a BMX, experienced my first cyclone, and have been exploring whenever possible. 📸 All this while staying consistent and motivated with running. 🏃

𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 is shaping up to be quite the year! Looking forward to all the experiences to come. 🚲😁 |
