I have been doing the photography for The Crater Rim Winery’s new food and wine book, due out later this year, and had to go up to the winery yesterday to get the last shots as the grapes are just about to be picked. The problem was yesterday was dark, overcast and pouring rain. I was huddled under a very large umbrella to prevent the camera from getting to wet so the bunches of grapes looked even flatter and more dismal then you can imagine. But with a good tripod a remote flash and a bit of tweaking in photoshop here is what you can get if you understand light and colour, and how that effects your perception of a subject.

Here is a look at a snap of the local hills with a before straight from the camera (a bit flat and dreary) and after a few tweaks (bringing out contrast and colour). Hopefully, you can see a difference.

I often look at the images on Facebook or other sites and think they could be so much better with just a slightly different approach or a bit of a tweak. So I am hoping to run an ad like this in some local papers. If anyone is interested, or you know someone who might benefit, please get in touch with me. Thanks.

On the way home from Akaroa the sky became a bit dramatic and I couldn't resist a snap.
