Happy Easter everyone! This morning I got up early to join a couple friends on a hike to the Pouakai Tarns with the intention of arriving around sunrise.

When we got to the Tarns everything was completely clouded over, and the place was crowded, that’s what we get for going up on a long weekend I suppose. We decided to keep following the track and climb up Henry Peak.

It was still clouded over but the cloud cover was changing quickly so we spent some time up there hoping for it to clear. We had a window of a few minutes where most of the cloud around the mountain cleared and I got this shot of the mountain before the clouds came in again.

We briefly checked out the new Pouakai hut on the way back and stopped off at Knead Donuts before heading home. Great way to spend a Saturday morning on a long weekend.

Wow it's almost the end of February and I have barely practiced any photography so far this year.

Last night I finally got back into it and went back to what has fast become one of my favorite spots to shoot photos in Taranaki at the Stony River.

It's been a little while since I last went to this spot and with all of the weather we've had the river has changed drastically! So this ended up being much less of a walk than I originally expected.

I wanted to try shooting this scene at twilight, capturing the foreground while there was still enough light to see it clearly but also capture the early glow of the stars. After waiting around for about an hour this is what I captured.

It has really begun to feel like summer these last couple weeks. I’ve even managed to get a couple runs in which has felt great.

After a run last night I grabbed the camera and went for a stroll along the coastal walkway at sunset to get a couple shots.

With the sun positioned where it was it was difficult to get a photo that wasn’t overexposed, so for this one I leaned into it and overexposed the top of the image but managed to retain the silhouette of Paritutu Rock and the chimney.

After a few days of some pretty serious rain it was great to have a day with brilliant clear skies. I decided to head up to the Manganui Gorge bridge to get some more photos, last time I went up there the mountain was clouded over. It was completely clear when I went today although rather chilly!
