A little update for anyone who has been thinking about autumn photos this year 🍂

I have limited family sessions while the leaves are at their best around Nelson, but there are now only 4 spots remaining.

Autumn is one of my favourite seasons to photograph families — the light is softer, the colours are beautiful, and sessions are relaxed and playful.

Every year I have families say: “We meant to book autumn photos… but suddenly the leaves were gone.”
Autumn colour in Nelson only really lasts a few weeks, and it’s just starting to look beautiful now.

A parent said something to me last week that really hit home!

“I didn’t realise the last time was happening.”

The last time they asked to be carried.
The last time they reached for your hand crossing the road.
The last time they climbed into your bed in the middle of the night.

At the time it just feels like another day. But one day you realise those little moments quietly disappeared while life was busy happening.

That’s one reason I love Family Photography. Not because everything is perfectly styled or everyone is smiling at the camera … but because they freeze a moment in time.

Autumn is one of my favourite times for these sessions in Nelson — warm light, golden trees, and kids who would much rather play in leaves than sit still and pose for the camera.

Our sessions are all about real joy—not just sitting and posing. With leaves in the air and giggles all around, we capture genuine emotion and create memories you’ll cherish. But don't worry if getting up early to play in the leaves is not your thing ... the great thing about Autumn is that it's perfect for beach sessions too! With earlier sunsets you don't have to keep the kids up late in order to take advantage of the beautiful soft golden light that makes beach sessions magical.

With room for the kids to run around, bunny tails to play with, sand dunes to jump off, and a front row seat to the sunset the beach is a great option for anyone who wants portraits that are relaxed and fun while keeping a softer neutral colour palette to your portraits.

While it may not be as warm as summer, its not soo cold that we can't dip our toes in the water at the end of the session for some fun playful portraits if you are up for it!

If you have noticed the nip in the morning air this past week - it's official ... Autumn is here!

While I love the warmth of summer, there is something extra special about autumn -
The light is warm, soft, and lower in the sky (a photographers dream).
The trees quietly show off for a few short weeks… and then it’s over.

It’s one of my favourite times to photograph families — not because it’s trendy, but because it looks beautiful, it sparks playfulness, and session timings fit better with kids' schedules
