This is possibly my weirdest entry into the Iris Awards ever.
We have been meaning to have a family portrait taken for a really long time. The timing just hasn’t been right - I feel like as I get older, there are always a ton of excuses but also, my inability to organise myself these days is truly terrible!
I knew that if we were to have a family portrait that it wasn’t going to be conventional. It was going to mean something to us, be fun, be weird, and be a true piece of art.
This is our homage to The Rolling Stones Some Girls vinyl.
I entered this into the creative category of the awards, because this did actually move! It was three layers of Matt boards with the centre layer pulling out to represent a record sleeve insert.
I often referred to this one as my elaborate bomb - I had no idea how it would do, but had a feeling it would either do really well or not do well at all. I was pleasantly surprised to receive a gold with distinction, a score of 95 for this entry.
So if you like the weird and wonderful and need a family portrait, bring me your idea because I do love a challenge!
Massive thanks to edgesframing for helping me bring this vision to life.
