And we're back!

With Level 2 giving us the freedom to travel and interact with one another once again, Black Mare Photography can continue where we left off before Covid-19 put the comeback on hold.

Photo shoots are still offered at $50 for a one hour session (terms apply), and all health and safety precautions will be taken during my visit to you and your lovely equine friend.

I know that the timing for lockdown means that we missed the pre-fluff season for those last minute Summer photos, but even Winter ponies can make cute wee portraits.

Message me to book your photo shoot, I'm looking forward to hearing from the world again!

I have had some interest for photo sessions in the Tekapo and Fairlie districts and considering that the location is a fair way from home (and fuel prices are making us all poor and hungry these days) I thought it would make sense to cut down the cost of travel by hosting a full day of photos.
If you are interested in having photos of you and/or your equine friend taken in these locations please feel free to message me or comment below. The more interest, the less the travel fee will be for everyone. Perhaps if people are able, we may be able to get some horses down to the lake for lakeside images.
The date for this is yet to be confirmed, however at this stage it is likely to be a SUNDAY.

Photos are of course available closer to home (Methven, Mid-Caterbury) and I will be looking for interest in the Timaru District in the near future as well.

After being on a photography hiatus for over a year, it's time for Black Mare Photography to come back for the new year. Images feature my own horses, Skybee and Dusk, as well as my dog Meg.

WHERE HAVE I BEEN?!

I'll admit, it has been a long time since I have been active on this photography page. To say that my photography has suffered is an understatement. My passion for it waned after a series of events that had a negative affect on my work caused me to put my camera aside for a while.

But my passion is still there. Just laying dormant, waiting for me to pick it up and look through the lens again. A lot has happened in the last two years since I effectively "disappeared", but I am still here, and I still treasure the art of photography.

To make a long story short, my precious Skybee, the horse that sparked my desire to become an equine photographer, has been on rocky ground for some time. People who know me will understand that this horse means the world to me, and exactly one week before Christmas 2019 Skybee underwent an operation to remove one of her eyes.

Now don't fret, it was the best decision for her and she has bounced back better than ever.
The reality is that with this huge positive, there also strikes the big negative.

A giant vet bill.

There was no hesitation to give the go-ahead for the surgery. Skybee has been with me for 8 years, and despite the eye issue she is a happy, healthy, larger-than-life grumpy old mare. Her life was worth more than my bank account.
But unfortunately living requires that bank account to be a bit fuller.

AND SO
I am offering DISCOUNTED photography shoots for people within the Mid-Canterbury and South-Canterbury areas.

To help raise money so that I can pay off the cost of Skybee's eye operation, each photo shoot will be $50 for one hour (travel may apply), with the best images taken given to you for free, saving you half the cost of a usual photoshoot.

If you would like to know more, feel free to message me. 😁
