The aim of MUSTER is to be a cheerleader for rural life, and to share the beauty of the high country with you through photography. Photography by Anna Munro, nee Anna Jaine.

'I had the best upbringing on sheep and beef farms 'Cren Lea' in Carew, and later 'Cravendale' in Mt Somers. I have always loved all things creative! 🎹 🎶🎸📸 🎨

These days I live in Hawea with my husband, Mitch, and two spoilt dogs (farm dogs + couch dwellers 🐕). My work is split between shepherding at Ardgour Station, and physio-ing in Wanaka. I am lucky enough to head to Lake Heron Station for musters when they are desperate for numbers 😂🐏, and throw the camera in for each trip. Evening thoughts as a Mum...

'It's that time just before you finally crash for the night. I'm feeding you in bed and you pull on and off the breast, thrashing your body around, wee fat fists balled up. You pull away and collapse onto your back on the duvet, arms wide like a dead starfish, me breathing a sigh of relief. Then boom you're up again, drinking with feet kicking me in the jaw. Often I'm tired and impatient but tonight I get the giggles. Babies are impossible, so full of life.

I'm hot and dirty from the garden but you wouldn't be kept waiting so I've flagged a shower for the night. Amazing how self care reaches all time lows as a Mum. Your cheeks are wet with the tears you shed as I hurriedly brushed my teeth so that's all I've managed. My mouth and skin are as dry as February in Tarras and in desperation for some hydration I grasp for a pottle of ancient moisturiser and plaster it on my face. Well I think it's moisturiser. Who cares.'

What an idyllic couple of weeks we've had!

Now that the manic part of lambing is over I can romanticise on all the pretty parts!!

One minute you're elbow deep in afterbirth and the next the sun's out, there are lamb gangs everywhere and it all looks pretty as a picture! And you think 'that was fantastic let's do it again next year!' 🤣
