Shade showing me he can do both majestic, AND beast mode 💪 all four paws in the air even!

Crazy zoomy facials are 100% guaranteed to make me smile it comes time for editing 🤪 and yep, I was lying down in the wet sand for that first shot - so worth it for the reflection 👏

3 day weekend, 3 Months in, and 300 (on insta anyway) followers later - it doesn't sound huge probably, but when I decided to make this a real thing in July, I didn't imagine that I would be just the perfect amount of busy!

Sharing a little Walkies sesh with my Hazel girl down Waikawa Beach today. It's one of my favourite places for dog walking - it's got everything you'd want - varied scenery with the beach, dunes, and a forest. At this time of year all the yellow lupins are everywhere looking so dreamy. Hazel was grinning the entire time, even more so when she got an icecream and Chippies from Manakau’s Famous after! It's so dog friendly, and the food is always delish - a real gem in the Horowhenua 👌💯

I love this style of shoot where it's more a candid documentary feel. Recording those bits of real life, who was there, how it felt - a routine walk can be so special to record when the whole family comes along too. I can tell I'm going to love having some of these framed on my walls 👨‍👩‍👦‍👦🐕🌼

🌸 The days are longer & the coastal flowers are here! 🌼

Fun fact - Shade really hates baby talk 🤣 like it's the only thing that really bothers him, and he's not big on overly enthiastic greetings, people & dogs alike. I must admit that first bit of info in his questionnaire made me laugh out loud but then I was like, same Shade, same 🫪

With each session I make sure to get to know what your dog is like in advance. That way, I can adjust my approach to suit the dogs quirks, aversions, as well as consider their mobility & energy levels 🐾

I spent the first wee bit of this session ignoring Shade & having a yarn with his mum while he was just being a dog. By the time the camera was out and the perfect flower spot was chosen, Shade & I were very good buds 😎

Gurl, there is no such thing as feeling 100% ready 😅

But when you're starting something new, especially after working for someone else for the past decade or more, it's so easy to overthink everything. I’d still be stuck right where I was if I hadn’t let go of the need to have it all together before starting 😶‍🌫️

🤷‍♀️ Perfection is a trap - good stuff happens when you just get on with it & figure it out (most of the time)
🤦 Mistakes are part of the journey, sad but true (I did just sing that Metallica song in my head).
🐣 We LOVE a mid-thirties career pivot, no - you're not late to the party!
🤬 The critic in your head is usually a neggy lil b*tch, don't listen to her.
🫡 You don't get if you don't ask, have the audacity
❤️ People will show up and support you 🤗

This ones to the Dog Mums 💖
I can bet with high-ish confidence you've probably got 6000 photos of your dog, but just handful of 'good ones' with you in it?

I know you know deep down that your dog doesn't give a rats about how feral your messy bun is or the fact that you’re wearing the same leggings two days in a row. They've probably been with you through house moves, career changes, complete changes in life phases! Your dog just see's YOU, and you deserve to see YOU too, with your dog by your side.

I've been through the heartbreak of losing a heart-dog, I can tell you that when they're gone, you just wish there were some good ones where you're in the frame too. You want the proof of the connection, the special language you guys seem to have, and all the fun bits too. Proof of how it felt to be loved by them through every season.

Stop waiting to be smaller / more put-together / less-feral and get in the bloody photo with your dog. Bring the whole fam even! Future you will be so glad you did!

❤️ Thank you to Jessy and her beautiful boy, Shade 🐕 Jessy already has 'thousands' of photos of Shade, what she really wanted was more photos of the two of them together. Our session plan was to capture their deep connection & bond - you can tell that in some way, they were always meant to find each other. Thank you for spending the sunset with me & having me capture these memories for you both xx
