Another from this series, looking toward the Oteake Conservation Area. With just the 50mm lens the composition changes just by turning a few degrees left of right. I often use a 28-85mm zoom and it is easy to default to the wider focal length and try to get everything in. Using just one prime lens brings a different discipline and process, offering up compositions that would otherwise have been missed! Almost next door to us is the Lauder Atmospheric Research Station, I was lucky enough to enjoy a guided tour of the facility recently, and this is the view from one of the research buildings. A satellite antenna in the dome, and the Hawkdun Range in the background. A 35mm film photo made with ZEISS Camera Lenses and Kodak film.

My two year old granddaughter brought her family to visit a couple of weeks ago, determined to experience some snow. Fortunately Granddad knows where to find such things! I took along my 1936 Contax II camera, now ninety years old. The ZEISS Camera Lenses 2.8/5cm Tessar lens still has it! Looking towards the Oteake Conservation Area, afternoon light playing with the folds in the landscape! A 35mm film photo made with Kodak film. © All Rights Reserved.

The old gold mining settlement of St Bathans has a permanent population now of less than a dozen people, and is home to one of the most iconic pubs in New Zealand, the Vulcan. On a cold day it has a welcoming fire and great food to keep you warm! A medium format film photo made with Kodak Ektar 100 film and LEE Filters © All Rights Reserved
