The amazingly jagged Mangersta Sea Stacks hidden on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis. They take a little bit of finding as you can’t see them from the road and there are no signs, but well worth the effort (a little bit of old fashioned map reading required). Also helped that we were blessed with fine weather when we were there! 🌞😎 These are 10sec exposures taken with a 10 stop ND filter. I’ve seen some amazing shots taken from the beach here, but I have to say I completely bottled any attempt to get down, it looked way too iffy! 😂

The stunning Coldbackie Beach on the Kyle of Tongue on the North Coast of Scotland. Taking the drone on this trip really did give some additional options in shooting the landscape.

Just back from an epic three week tour of Scotland in the van and have finally started to work through the many images I collected on the way. Thought I’d start with this - the wreck of the old fishing vessel MV Dayspring at Corpach near Fort William. Apparently it broke its moorings in a storm in 2011 and ended up on this beach. I know it’s not an original composition, but just wanted to shoot this classic view of the wreck with Ben Nevis in the background.

Earlier this week, armed with a flask of coffee, I headed out to the hills above Ystradfellte for an early evening hike to the famous lonely tree. I waited for sunset and took this sequence of shots as the sky changed colour and the stars slowly appeared. Really happy that I also managed to catch a shot of the zodiacal light, which is a faint and diffuse wedge of light that projects from the western horizon shortly after dusk at this time of year in the UK. It’s caused by interplanetary dust particles reflecting sunlight towards earth and is visible around 90-120 minutes after sunset. Quite difficult to make out with the naked eye, but a long exposure can pick it up. I’ve annotated each photo with details of how I took the shot, highlighting particular points of interest.
