Black kites (Milvus migrans) cluster together primarily for protection, foraging efficiency, warmth, and navigation, while also fostering social bonds. This behavior can be seen during migration or near abundant food sources, provides safety and shared benefits for the group. I found this group perched in a tree, scanning agricultural fields for rodents and insects.

Did you know?

Wild water buffaloes (Bubalus arnee) are the ancestors of the domestic water buffaloes that provide the rich milk to create mozzarella. These powerful animals are endemic to the wetlands of South and Southeast Asia. With a population of over 2,600, the world’s single largest population resides in Kaziranga National Park which offers a perfect habitat for them.

Pictured are photos of wild water buffaloes in sandy banks of the Brahmaputra river and in Kaziranga National Park.

A huge thank you to Travel Bindass () for organizing my incredible journey through Kaziranga National Park and Assam!
